Did you read this story about the man who was fined $1 billion for spamming Facebook?

A Montreal man who sent more than four million spam e-mails to Facebook users over a two-month period was ordered to pay the social media giant more than $1 billion in compensation.

Facebook spammer fined $1 billion - Canada - Canoe.ca

Of course, this man went to excess (though he never admitted it). But, could Facebook crack down on even a few private messages sent, if they're viewed as spam?

They are only going after him because he made a fortune doing what he did... If he did not make a dollar you would see facebook look the other way... simple tactic on trying to collect revenue from other people pockets.

When you think of the effort that people go to producing spam you have to ask yourself if that effort would not be put to better use learning proper marketing techniques.

Spam is cart before the horse thinking. It rates a post before its readers, a backlink above the visitors it brings you, a ranked site above the money it makes for you. Sure, this guy made a fortune. He'd have made a bigger one doing it legitimately - and making his fans really happy at the same time.

What's more, he'd still be in business today. Nor would he have had all the worry on his head about the court case, the worry about jail terms. What his lawyers might say. What the journalists might say about him in public.

Social media is all about being social. Do that and Facebook are going to congratulate you, your visitors will enjoy what you write, post, pin, or tweet.

Not slam you with a $1billion bill.
