Whats the point of a fan/business page with promoted posts?

We have a facebook page for our small company and it honestly seems pointless for us to continue to keep it up. We have 389 likes and the cost to promote a post to that group is 40$. Is there a better way?

For that matter whats the point of starting a page from a IM stance, building thousands of likes if it only costs an astronomical amount to post to everyone?

Social Media Marketing is very vital and can benefit your business tremendously, you need to cross promote on different social media platforms like pinterest, twitter, linkedin and create incentives for them to like your page.

The number one mistake most FB business pages make is that they keep it strictly corporate and that is a complete NO NO... You should engage your fans with coupons, services, humor etc... keep it exciting and you will build fans.

  • aLittleTF,

Franktwin has some good points. Most businesses that have no success with facebook typically don’t engage with their fans at all or use the page in a way that will bring in business. Try reaching out to them with promotions and offers. Look into applications that you can add to the page so you can convert people in that way. I noticed that you develop iPad apps (or maybe just one?). You could use Facebook as a way to have people find out about your services by using custom applications.

In all honesty, it can be very difficult to track conversions from social media without some diligence offline in organizing customer records and tracking how people came to be customers from just fans.

Maybe you can find some ideas here,

Remember that your ROI is directly proportional to your sales, and to get sales you need to stay close to your customers and engage them always. So likes means nothing if they remain as likes. Also build a option form in a separet tab to send them to and get their e-mails. Try other type of advertising (and select the option to not show the ads to people who are already fans of your page)

To many businesses enter into the IM and Social Media realm with out having a business driven strategy laid out. Starting a Facebook page, Twitter account, Youtube channel, etc etc without a clear and concise strategy is a waste of time and money. It is no different than any other business segment/venture...you need to know what your end goals are, how you are going to achieve them as well as how you are going to track them...

For many businesses Facebook "can" be a direct path to making sales but a large portion of the time it is a non-direct path. Instead of trying to "sell" to the visitors, engage with them, deliver your company message, learn their opinions, learn the demographics of the followers, etc etc. These are valuable items that can lead to more sales....

    So for you specifically ALittleTF...

You have a business that sells an iPad app which helps people learn a new language through playing a game.

    Facebook -

First off, what is with the 'Why did men stop wearing high heels?" post???

Secondly, the content that you are putting on your facebook page is quite informative but it is SUPER DRY! You are promoting a GAME, there should be a ton of content about the GAME! I see no images, videos or other that showcases the game itself, how fun it is to play and learn a new language.

Third, from the content...I am not sure if you are promoting to the consumer or to business for them to buy your product for their consumers...Lots of your content is very teacher/instructor orientated and would not get great response from an end consumer. The content that might reach a B2B client is very vague and is basically just curated content with no real substance.

Forth- What do you want visitors to DO on your Facebook page??? For the most part you are currently sending them to places like EdTech Times that does not mention "Lingual" once on their site. You need to be sending your visitors to YOUR properties for more sales and product information, capturing their email/contact info and sending to places that mention your product in a review, spotlight etc.

Last but not least, you are not using facebook as it is meant to be used...as a social platform. You have no posts that direct visitors to get their friends to come checkout your page, like your page, share your pages etc....There are many techniques to achieve this...an example would be to hold a mini contest that gets users to tags their friends on an image and when they do, they are entered into a draw for a free version of your iPad application when it is completed....

One More Thing....Your Facebook page says "Read the blog at www.catchlingual.com" BUT THERE IS NO BLOG.....so when you actually do send people to your website, the reason you are using to send them there is false and missing. Either change it to, "find out more at www.catchlingual.com" or add a blog...

These are just a few quick comments/suggestions about your facebook page as it currently sits....There are other improvements you could make to it as well are the rest of your Online Presence....

I am not sure if you are PAYING someone to post to that group and it is costing you $40 a post but if so, then that money being spend is not helping your business.

BTW the video of your game does look pretty neat.
