Facebook Ads: Optimized CPM weird pricing behavior

Been running a lot of optimized CPM ads and noticed some really strange behavior. I'm tracking this thing like a leech.

I'll swear they are charging per "like" and just pretending to run CPM........

My cost per "like" most of the time sticks to around 10c per ... but for several hours at a time it sticks to the same CPC so precisely that it appears "machined". i.e. after 46 likes my cost is $4.56, after 210 likes my cost is $20.97 etc.

And then on other days, or if I mess with the "account spend" setting (in the billing tab) while the ads are running, all of a sudden the performance drops through the floor and becomes "consistently" around 25c or 40c per click. And then it will stick to that same cost like a rock until I turn the ads off.

Also, depending on what time of day I switch the ads on will dictate the cost per click for the rest of the day.

The next day it's the same story. The thing is, costs should be fairly consistent and have a similar amount of predictable irrationality.

The whole thing is completely contrived if you ask me. The stats are too strange. Anyone else notice any strange misbehavior with pricing on FB ads?
