Facebook Newsfeed Advertising Question

Hi Warriors,

I have a simple question about Facebook's new newsfeed advertising feature. I noticed that Facebook "only allows" sponsored stories and promoted posts to fully take advantage of the newsfeed advertising platform.

That's all fine and dandy, except I've discovered something that has me a little confused.

When I go to create a regular facebook ad, via the power editor, and choose "newsfeed only" option as my choice of placements, it shows an error, which says "error:type," meaning the type of ad is not suitable for this placement.

However, when I upload the ad, it transfers over just fine. In fact, it even gets approved.

So my question is, are we allowed, or not allowed to advertise on Facebook using the newsfeed feature, even if it's not a sponsored story/promoted page post?
