Google Plus is slowly creeping up on Facebook...but with Facebook rolling out GraphSearch I don't know if Google+ can catch them. However, that said, Facebook has just changed their "promoted posts" for Fan Pages. It used to be only $5-$10, $10 being that you could reach 11k people.

Now in order to reach 11k people, you're going to have to spend $50! With such a drastic change, people may get fed up with Facebook...I know I am.

Youtube will definetly rocks this year not as video sites but as search engine...Google hangout is very popular, it is often use for affiliates,..facebook graphsearch sucks big time!..my fan page that should be promoted in 20-35 years old people are marketed to 10-17 Years Old.

      The price is not worthy...

I snatched up a bunch of domain names on Rebelmouse, so I'm really hoping that they take off this year. Anyone had any success monetizing Rebelmouse yet?

I think Facebook could stay the king ding-a-ling in social for quite some time. IF they offer premium services for Page owners AND get Timeline apps visible on mobile devices. It's hard to make a case for Timeline apps when over half of the traffic on Facebook is mobile now. IMHO

Pinterest is getting more and more popular. I think that this one will succeed quite well in 2013.

Tumblr has never really been a favorite of mine. I guess I just do not fully understand it. Do you just post pics of things? I do not have an account, but yet when I click on things that lead me back to tumblr, all I often see is an image. What do I have to do to get content for that image? I have tried clicking on it and nothing really happens.

In my opinion, there will always be a few social networks coming up in some time and gaining multitudes of popularity, but eventually FB will remain a giant in the social media space. That doesn't mean there aren't any promising social networks, it just about mass popularity, high momentum, and appealing features that are essential for anything "social media" to come up as a winner.

I hear good stuff about Pheed

As for Tumblr - a lot of younger kids use it - its lazy very easy to "like" and reblog content - don't forget you can set that up to feed your twitter and facebook profiles, so kids can integrate it.

From how see it, a social media channel will be popular when everyone start promoting them virally. Remember hotmail signature?

I think we're set for a while. Social media is my primary source of content, income, etc. — so I study it very closely. While Google+ may be getting larger by the day, I don't see it ever touching the likes of YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

I'd say G+ with its various apps...

    BCS:
Yesterday, without even thinking about it, I used:
    Google Search
    Google Adwords
    Google Translator
    Google Talk
    Google Music
    Google Voice
    Google Reader
    Google Calendar
    YouTube (Owned by Google)
Talk, Texted, and used data on my Android Galazy SIII (Owned by Google)

So I thought, why not monetize what I'm already doing?

Was just checking out Pheed and it's pretty cool. Now I just need to get some followers. I assume just like Twitter, just follow others and make entertaining posts and that's how to build followers? Any ideas guys?

I run a mountaineering guiding and instruction company, and have a fairly good website, that has been very active over the years. We've just had a new theme installed, and I'm pretty happy, however, despite blogging regularly, using social media a lot (Twitter and Facebook) and updating things, I've noticed that two competitors in particular, who have homemade sites, blog infrequently and hardly use social media are doing far better for many search terms that I would like to rank higher on Google for. My site is: Scottish Winter Climbing Courses - West Coast Mountain Guides and the two sites that do much better are:

In fact over the last two years I started toi make money and I have saved it all however I am not earning that magical number (for me ) of 1000 per month on a regular basis in order to leave my day job and do this full time.

The end of the year is coming, and its time to look back and to think about everything that happened this year, specially in the marketing field, where a lot of changes have happened. Think about it, a year ago Instagram didnt have stories and Snapchat was on its way of taking it down, Twitter was quite stable, and Vine existed!. I believe one of the things we should be doing right now is thinking about the most successful pieces of content that where launched in social media, to learn from them. Unruly did precisely that, they came up with a list of the 20 most viral ads of the year, this are same of those ads with a small comment on what can we learn from them:

The influencers boom and the growing interest of brands to engage with consumers through them is having a direct impact on how the campaign are designed, the new objective is to raise the brands awareness through getting to the conversation of regular people, and working with influencers is one of the best ways of achieving that. Brands are obsesed with entering the consumers accounts and acchieving that the consumers themself talk about their products or services, this is changing the rules of advertising in ways that we cant accurately measured yet.
