Ok. So when I first started out with my fb page, I didn't really know what I was doing with it. I felt a bit silly having no likes so I bought some. Since then i have had a bit of spam to deal with from a few of the fake likers, who I banned.

Now, I'm using my page properly. I still have a lot of the fake likes but I also have a lot of genuine likes. I've been running a campaigns over the past few days to get people to sign up to my mailing list for my main website.

The mailing list campaign wasn't working. I was trying to entice them into sign up for a newsletter in exchange for a free ebook through a custom made tabs at the top of the page. But nobody was signing up.

So this morning, I tried a ppc promotion box which sent them directly to the sign up page of my website, and pinned it to the top of my fb page. The first few were genuine. But now I have had a sudden influx of Asian names.

Now, it's not that Asians aren't allowed to sign up to my list, but the people my niche tends to attract are predominantly westerners. They are also all coming at once, not like the steady drip-drip-drip like the other names were. Which has made me feel . I've now taken the promotion down because I am not paying for dodgy signups!

Any ideas as to why this is happening? I'm guessing it has something to do with the fake likers but I have no idea what they would be gaining out of it.

Edit - I've just been looking on my autoresponder and they aren't confirming their email addresses (I have a double opt in). Wtf?

Also, one of my thoughts were that maybe one of the fake likers may have had an interest in the book, and posted a link somewhere, but even though I have taken the promo box down, there is still big tab at the top screaming "FREE BOOK" and posts advertising it. I think if they were at all genuine they would have clicked the tab. But no, they were only interested in the PPC box.

Perplexing...

Yeah, don't you just love facebook? I had an issue recently with people not only signing up with fake accounts, but they gave nasty names too! Things obviously meant to insult me. Plus one going to the WarriorForum webmaster! I know this because the IP address was the same (FL). For the life of me, I'm trying to figure out what they think they are achieving except to cost you more money with your autoresponder provider. In fact, there seems to be some discussion about this now about whether or not Aweber is addressing this kind of problem and the fact that they don't have an automatic flag for obvious things like "cialis".

As far as the fake likes, even though some may have been people who actually use their accounts (for good or evil), my hunch is that many of those accounts were only for purposes of providing likes and don't have any activity to speak of.

I don't blame you for not paying for dodgy sign ups. Is there something you can change about the target audience that would get you sign ups from a more limited segment of the globe?

Well, my previous fb adverts have always been directed to a UK audience only. The only fans of the page that aren't British are the fake likers, that's why the finger is pointing at them.

It's all very strange. Annoying too. I think I'm going to start blocking the fake likers slowly.
