Sorry -- really dumb FB ads question...

I assume the ad graphic cannot contain a phone #, right?

Also, the FB ad can go to (when clicked on) any url, not just lead to another FB page, right?

Also, advertiser is billed per view or per click?

Thanks!

Sure you can put a phone number in there and point the ad almost anywhere you want. By almost I mean some affiliate links are frowned upon, but if its a standard url you'll be fine.

Some things to consider though, clicks that lead outside of Facebook are often more expensive, and stats say atleast 60% of urls that takes a user off facebook hit the back button just as quickly, people are there to be on Facebook, if they wanted to visit other sites they would use google.

Also most people will click past the link regardless of whether you use a phone number or not, why should they call you is the answer they want. When they get that they'll call.

I know a phone number doesn't seem like a large amount of space but with the limited characters you get, it could mean the difference between a number "0800000000" or a CTA "click now!"

I know facebook is not a fan of affiliate links, but what if they are cloaked? How strict are they about all of this?

It may work, it's hard to say. My only concern is that everyone is so research minded these days and because of the tiny paragraph you get to sell your concept, it more times than not will result in a clicked ad before calling anyway.

Ads are charged per 1000 views or per click, your choice on which.

Just throwing this out there that might work better is if you used sms shortcodes. eg, text Yes to 0800 for a free quote. people with little time to research will text because it's quick. you then get to capture mobile numbers and market to them using some form of mobile marketing. Just a thought.

Not really sure how they view them really, chances are they actually click on the link and view the destination. Its better to iframe the link into your own domain and send them to that. I've seen this done quite a bit.
