Merged Facebook page not indexed by Google

Hey All,
First-time poster here. I've used this forum as a knowledge resource for years, so I'm sure someone here will be able to point me in the right direction. I have two questions about my company's Facebook page:
  1. We just merged our two separate company Facebook pages last week on Friday (one week ago today). The page that we essentially got rid of was facebook.com/vmsicharge (not a very good URL, don't know why someone picked it to begin with). We merged it into the page we WANT to use going forward: facebook.com/getvms . The 'vmsicharge' page was ranking page 1 of Google when you searched our full company name "Velocity Merchant Services." After the merge, we've lost that position. What's worse is that even though the '/getvms' FB was created several years ago, it does not show up in Google's indexes. I went through several guides and made sure the page is not viewable by Admin only and that there are no country or age restrictions. If you search /vmsicharge today, we still show up in Google search results but the links are all broken when clicked. What can I do to help get the /getvms page picked up by Google? I understand we may have lost P1 ranking, but at least we'd be searchable!
  2. The second part of this question is: the old page's NAME was actually our full company name "Velocity Merchant Services." The new page uses our acronym VMS. I was considering requesting a Name Change through Facebook from VMS to either Velocity Merchant Services (VMS) or just Velocity Merchant Services. What do you think: should I request a name change so that the page gets picked up in Google for the full business name search? Or should we stick with just VMS and hope for the best because a Title Tag change hurts SEO? This choice doesn't change the fact of (Q1) the FB page is not indexed by Google, so first thing's first.
Hope I'm posting this in the right forum area! Thanks to anyone who can help
- Lorraine

  • Mimicplay,

Have you tried contacting Facebook directly about the issue? I tried to look for information around the web to help you but unfortunately (as I’m sure you have discovered) the only info seems to be related to settings in permissions like country and age restrictions (which you have already checked on). If it has indeed been several years, you should write Facebook and ask them to take a look at it. I doubt anyone else will be able to help you figure this out unless they have experienced the exact same thing and were able to fix it.

    Best,

    Shawn

      Hey Shawn,
Thanks for the response. I posted on Facebook's Help forums yesterday evening but haven't gotten a response yet. If they can get me an answer that's useful to everyone, I'll come back here and share it. In the meantime, I submitted our Facebook page directly to Google to see if that helps. Thanks again for following up!

PS - Other than posting in the help forums on FB, how exactly does one "contact FB directly?" It seems impossible to speak with a human when you need help with either FB or Google! Suggestions welcome

I just wanted to update: Our new Facebook page IS now showing up in Google! Yay! I'm not sure what helped. I submitted the URL to Google directly, I put in a trouble ticket with Facebook, I posted a thread on Facebook's community forums and I posted a LOT of content on the new page and got a ton of interaction from our followers.

New question: In order to appear in SERP for our brand term, Velocity Merchant Services, should I change our Facebook page's NAME from VMS to the full company name? Or perhaps to the full name PLUS the (acronym) afterwards? Supposedly Google penalizes you for changing title tags, but it might be worth it in this case to get the FB page ranking again on P1 Google. Let me know your thoughts!
