is there a limit to the number of people you can direct message on twitter?

and any useful tools to dm a lot of people? or just straight thru twitter.com?

    The limit is around 250 - But be careful that you don't get blocked for spamming. Over promoting and direct messaging could land you in hot water.

    Your Tweets should be 70% value 30% promotion.

      Totally agree with Khemba.

      As an alternative, you might grab the email of those people you'd like to DM on Twitter, and then build an email list instead.

      You could use a service like MailChimp or Aweber to reach them with scheduled emails without getting caught in the spam net.

    Direct messaging is definitely the easiest way to get caught breaking their rules by advertising, if that's what you're trying to do then look for another way.

      I don't remember if they have a report option but I'd be surprised if they didn't. However, you have to remember that with all their tracking systems for spam they will catch you probably before you've even been reported by another user.

    Sending multiple messages to different recipients is better if you send them through e-mail and it is more convenient. If you are trying to promote something, it is best done when you can provide a lot of information about it and you can't do this using your Twitter account. You should know that sending the same messages repeatedly will directly be viewed as spamming and is a red flag for many networking sites.

    It doesn't matter whether Twitter have a feature to report spam or not. People hate being spammed so why do that if it won't convert, anyway. We need to build credibility and spamming isn't one of the ways to do that.
