I'm used to AdWords which seems to have much lower CPCs than Facebook, and clicks from which are a lot higher quality because they originate with someone actively searching for something that is related.

I've been experimenting with Facebook advertising for a while now but I'm still having a hard time justifying it. I'm not a big brand so I need to focus on conversions but I'm not seeing any coming from Facebook.

Is anyone else experiencing the same sort of thing?

Facebook marketing can be hit or miss. Sure you can target the audience better, but I think it truly comes down to what you are offering and is there really a market for it.

I am most likely to use Adwords or other related PPC programs apart from FB as I personally don't get much results from it. But if your niche is dating or social networking related then, I think you can leverage a lot by using FB for that campaign.

Thanks everyone. My site is an online store selling home decor items. Facebook CPC seems to be much higher than AdWords CPC and I don't see how the quality could be anywhere near comparable.

Facebook ads can be a pan in the A** sometimes.

You need to do a lot of split testing, before finally zeroing in on the perfect campaign which works.

Then again, facebook traffic is not as effective as compared to adwords traffic.

let me tell you my conversions:

I ran a campaign for a clickbank product.

FB gave me around 800 visitors in $15 I spent.

Out of those 800 only 1 converted.

Since the product gave $27 as commissions, I still made a profit.

I ran 2 ads on Google adwords.

I spent $15 each there and got a total of 1800 visitors.

Out of these 1800 visitors 10 converted.

    so here I spent $30 and I earned $270.

This was only one campaign I ran.

Majority of my earnings come from fb and other social media as I am a social media consultant byt FB traffic converts less as compared to adwords.

Facebook may have a lot of people there but your chances of getting more conversions will still depend on what you are promoting. With Adwords, the audience may be smaller but you have more chances of getting conversions unless what you are offering is related to dating, entertainment, and weight loss, you have a good chance with FB ads.

It's a different approach for Facebook versus Adwords.

Facebook is interuption marketing. Facebook users do not like leaving the Facebook site. They want to stay on it. So use that to your advantage. Adwords users are searching for what you're selling directly.

So approach them with different sales funnels and you'll be fine. Also target a lot of groups super tight on FB and you'll get dirt cheap clicks always.

Just to promote FB is good but just to sell Adwords is the best.

If you are looking for serious buyers, you are more likely to find many of them on Adwords. Facebook is more useful in promoting a product or service but you shouldn't underestimate Facebook since your chances of reaching potential clients are very wide. The connections Facebook has is incomparable.

Has anyone heard of anyone having success with a version of their store in a Facebook app?

Interesting point. I've always gone for sales and direct conversion ROI. Should I consider a different approach with Facebook? If so, how should I determine how much to spend on FB page visits or likes?

personally, as a person with a low budget and IMO not much time to implent everything.

I am only using adwords as I feel that Google is something that people use more actively to find a product or service they need compared to facebook or any other social site.

I am looking at ways to use google+ more too. adwords & google+, plus at some point videos on youtube, equals a very google friendly business. eventually.

I just got to get the content out there. be as transparent as possible.

Others had has success with facebook though, so keep it in mind.

In my opinion, Facebook produces casual visitors unlike adsense which generate serious visitors who are searching something, thats why they clicked that link. Adsense is best choice if you want serious traffic.

Facebook ads are awful for getting new sales generally. If you can use AdWords, I recommend sticking to what works for you. Facebook ads work great for a few types of businesses such as fashion but work awful for most other types of services. Do more of what you do best!
