Is "People Talking About This" Accurate?

I noticed a post that I posted this morning has 20 likes, however according to the People Talking About This it has 26 likes and 2 shares. Are those 6 extra likes and 2 shares coming from people who have their settings set to private or is this not accurate?

it might be the extra 'likes' are via the shares, ie their connections have liked what they shared (your content) rather than directly liking your original content.

    I don't know, it's just an option.

Accuracy, nobody will know either way as FB don't give out much info on anything, so nobody could really prove if the number is accurate or not other than FB themselves but I see no reason for it not to be so.

It's exactly this. You only see direct likes and shares of the content you've posted. If a third person shares your content and a fourth likes it, you see it in the "detailed stats", but not under the image/content directly.
