Fan Pages VS Facebook Groups!

Nowadays every business should create some sort of decent Social media presence and Facebook out of any doubt is the place to go.

Big majority of businesses use Fan Pages to represent their company on Facebook. In a few cases, however, creating a Facebook Group instead (or in addition) could be a smart move. The key distinction between Groups and Pages is that a Group is for a community of people with a common interest, while a Page represents a brand or business interacting with their customers or prospects identified as "fans." Here are some of the KEY differences in functionality:

Please comment and share your ideas on what would suit you or your customers best?

- What is your current Facebook strategy if any?
- Do you own a health Fan Page on Facebook, what did you do?
- What do you prefer, Groups or Pages?

By the way I guess this tip is alos helpful.

How to Set Up a Group

To set up a group, visit http://www.facebook.com/groups.php and click “Create a New Group” in the top, right-hand corner of the web page. Fill out the basic Group information, including name, which friends you‟d like to invite, and your Group‟s privacy settings.

(Note: Our recommendation is to choose “Open” to make your Group available to all of Facebook.)

Once you have your Group, you can edit your Group, add/remove functionality (links, photos, etc.), create events, designate administrators, or invite your friends to join.

I prefer the Facebook page layout. I am sure Facebook groups can be very beneficial to your business but I personally prefer Facebook pages. Probably because I visit more Facebook pages than I do Facebook groups.

It depends on what you are trying to target and not just your niche. They have both their advantages and you should choose that will help you better with your target. An FB Page will give you more exposure but since it's quite broad, it will take time to reach your targeted market. An FB group gives you limited exposure but this can give you better chances of getting people with common interests related to your business and can directly interact with them.

I would suggest a Fans page with a decent targeted Audience and then slowly move to a Group model.

One feature I love about Facebook Groups is that each page is publicly indexed and searchable great for quickly indexing and ranking content that otherwise would take forever to see any real rankings with the average blog, etc.

Well, there is a big difference between both.
facebook pages allow real organizations, businesses, celebrities and brands to communicate broadly with people who like them.
Groups provide a small space for of people to communicate about shared interests.
