Does tweet commenting work?

Hi, this is Max. Recently I've stumbled upon a quick Twitter tip on a marketing forum. It was suggested to find out profiles of popular people in your niche on Twitter, read their tweets, if there's a link - go have a quick look what's there, come back and make a comment. 'Twas recommended to follow those people first before commenting to claim your right to express your opinion. Is this gonna work? I don't think everybody wants their tweets to be commented. What would you say? Thanks.

Have you attempted to test it yet?

95% of IM'ers have great relationships with clients who also advertise offline and with other people. Stop missing out on that cash and leverage into it. PM me if you are an established marketer and want to find out how.

If you give related & good comment I think they probably will comment back. Or if they are selling something, give good reviews, most definitely they will retweet your comment.

Smart replies will elicit back comments from people who pay attention to interactions. That said, timing is important because you need to catch them while they are online as well as providing a useful reply that furthers the discussion. This is no guarantee of success. If you choose your battles wisely and build up relationships, you may increase your reputation and following, but it is hard work with little discernable gain initially. From a sales point of view, Twitter is a difficult beast to manage and may not be that useful overall. You may find yourself wasting a lot of time. That said, link it to a FB fan page, use Tweetdeck to organize your tweeting schedules and interactions, have a favourites list of people who are good to interact with and post plenty of non-selfish but really interesting content and you'll get there eventually. Whether it converts to sales or not is another thing entirely.
