Facebook Targeting Posts

Hi there,

I'm lizzy. First post here, but won't be the last. :p

For my fan page, I am trying to get more activity/likes by boosting my posts. There is now a new option to promote your post to People you choose through targeting.

However, my only quibble with this is, the only options you have are by age, location, language and gender. If there was an option to choose it by 'interests' i.e "health" it would be a godsend. However, with just this option, you may just be promoting your post to a) people who won't look OR b) people who will like your page, but will never buy anything and just liked that particular post.

I'm rather new to all this, so just wondered if i'm reading this wrong. I'd prefer to target people in my industry through my posts.

Thanks if anyone has any ideas? x

Well, you can do it that way, but if you're trying to target specific people, I would suggest forums, and social media. Using hashtags, and so on. Facebook is an alright source to advertise with, but in my opinion, far from the best.

If you're looking to build your FB fan base you can roll a hybrid strategy: ads to promote your page itself with the necessary targeting (interests, etc.) then boost your posts to fans only. That will keep targeting intact but you'll be missing out on the true 'boost', unfortunately. I've seen good 'like' success with boosting regardless.

    Hope this helps!

      Thank you!

What sort of posts have you found most success with. Company promotion posts (i.e. a sale for your store) or something everyone would be interested in (i.e. a woman recovers from a certain disease using natural methods).

And when you did it, did you narrow it down to any of the categories available (age/gender etc)

      Thanks x

If your looking to build fans then forget promoted posts. Use Facebook ads. Create an ad that encourages people to click the like button, for example a picture of a cute puppy and text saying "Click like if you love animals", properly done a fan should cost you a nickle or less in advertising fees.
