I read a press release from Google dated 8/1/2013. It said in the near future G+ will be pulling more power then backlinks because it is a type of social marketing and allows google to better index and rank the sites people want to see. It went on to say that links made through social sites get better consideration for placement because they show relevance with how people are thinking.
In my opinion, google returns more duplicate junk then any other search engine. I puled 3 sites up in separate tabs and typed in duplicate keywords. This I can tell you as a fact for the Dallas Texas area Bing outdone Google and Yahoo by bringing back very fast results, very relevant no duplicate! Google would have been dead last in that competition.
Anyway, I was just curious to see how others feel about the google+ button? I have tried to get more clicks on it since august 1, 2013. However, I still se a lot of high ranking sites with very little google + activity.

      yes, you are right. Google is a business and so they want to popular their own social media site. If lots of people will join them one day, they will get their profit.

    Social media for SEO helps a little but it's mainly to build traffic.
    facebook is a nofollow site so it won't help with SEO, but twitter is dofollow and can give you a little boost in SEO.

    With recent updates to Google algorithyms it's more important now than ever to get into social media in order to seem as more of an authority in googles eyes.
