Social Marketing Guide

I'm just getting the ball rolling on my new site (about teaching others to make money online). I know using social marketing will be a great way to get people to see it, and stay engaged, but this is one area where I'm still fairly inexperienced.

Is there a step-by-step guide for this process? I assume I'll need to make a Facebook fan page, a twitter account, and a page on Google+ and then push my posts to them as well when I publish something, but what else do I need to do?

I don't really want to be spending hours every day on Facebook when I could be improving my page directly.

Any tips would be most appreciated.

    I would check out hubspot and see what they have going on. They have a lot of inbound marketing guides and some devoted to social media.

    Your comment about spending time on facebook instead of working on your site is something I see a lot of. It helps to work out a goal first before you dive into any network. Ask yourself what it is you want the network to do for you in addition to if your target market is even present there.
    Then go to work doing things that work directly toward that goal. I like to use S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and time bound).

    I agree that you should come up with a social marketing plan first and identify what you want to happen and how you want the networking site to help you. Many people engage directly in Facebook without any proper plan that is why they are not getting the results they were expecting.
