Well, I've used Tumblr to advertise one of the communities I've been working on for a while. Target were young creative adults. There was no sale, only free registration and Tumblr did a decent job - it was third on the traffic sources list. That is actually the only time I was able to find a purpose of Tumblr.

  Yes, I have been at it for about 7 months now and make some good money from adsense and a bit from mylikes. With any site or blog it's still all about having the right niche, finding the right audience and giving it time to build a following.

Not yet with Tumblr, I only made money from Twitter and Google+

MyLikes work well with every platform where you have a crowd willing to click the links. I'm just not sure if this is worth the effort.

You should understand your market there. Usually they are teenagers and they are there to have fun, share cool or funny stuff, they are not there to look for something to buy but they can be very active to make things go viral, click happy, and so on. People can make decent money there if they can understand and monetize from their market's behavior. Selling products won't do well because most of them are in school and don't have their own money or work yet.

i have 6.5k followers and I make like 2-3 dollars a day ,its not a lot but its something. SO I can say I am making little money with it

I have to agree with @cynzdareveur. Its all the ecosystem. Most of the users on tumblr are kids and are not really looking to purchase products

Still I can't here that someone makes money through tumblr its a very good social site promote your product public will reach you on your website
