It's Too Bad Spammers Are Ruining Facebook!

Here we had a perfectly good social networking and we still do but the freaking spammers who do not know how to market correctly is ruining facebook.

8 out of 10 facebook pages that I go and look at to research has nothing but "click here to buy this" and absolutly no value whatsoever every is being provided.

Its frusterating because when you try to over a source for your informaton that you provide its almost impossible to do now.

THANKS A LOT SPAMMERS!

Here's a tip for ya, ===> If you spam your link and you are not making any sales then maybe you need to do it a different way! The problem is most people do not want to go through the effort and are just seeking instant gratification and really all they are dong is giving this industry a bad name!

What it comes down to is most don't give a shi* about anybody else except themselvs and their wallet. Those people will stay broke forever.

I hear ya. It's like a zillion people bought the same training, (or stole them from a blackhat site more likely,) half read them, decided they knew what it was about, then zerg rushed FB and muckedd it all up.

can't go on any groups anymore (that aren't in the IM niche) without seeing sloppy tactics and spam everywhere, it's disgusting frankly.

That's weird. Actually, I'm noticing the opposite. I seem to see a whole bunch of viral pages with an absolute ton of fans-things like humor and positive quotes, and those have little to no advertising whatsoever. I keep asking myself when these people are ever going to monetize their pages!

The viral pages are NOT the problem. They keep to themselves and don't intrude where they don't belong.

Here's an example. YARD SALE GROUPS.

There was a training (last year?) about using yard sale groups to drive traffic and sales.

Now you can't join a yardsale group without seeing endless, badly done SPAM affiliate marketing. It's a major turn off.

So this has nothing to do with fan pages that an owner sets up and runs- their success or failure is on themself and their goals are their own.

In my mind the problem is when forums (rather, groups) that are NOT built for marketing or money are being overrun with garbage that has no place there, by people who don't even remotely run the group.

It's getting to the point where, if a group owner isn't constantly online (or hiring a dozen people to help out) to remove the spam, there's no room left for content - or for what the group was intended for. And no, closing the group doesn't help. Unless an owner is willing to personally interview and vette every applicant (and even then bad apple con artists slip through) then how are they going to know who is there to pee on the wall?

In the above example - I know the marketer who released that training and I am glad he made money on it but I really wish he'd kept that tactic to himself instead of WSO'ing it.

There are a couple of problems in your statement here.

The first is that far too often the victims of those spammers you have no problem with take a scorched earth or zero tolerance policy, and even the people who were playing by the rules get hurt.

As an example, back when I joined this forum affiliate links were not forbidden. There was an etiquette for using them, and people for the most part followed it. As the forum grew, the exploiters ruined it. Some days, the main board looked more like some cheesy classified ad site than a serious discussion forum. Hence, the ban on affiliate links.

The second problem is one of perception. If you fly with ducks, don't get mad when people think you are also a duck. If you were going to play word association with most people outside the business, mention "Internet Marketing" and the first thing that pops into their minds are either spam or scam.

Yes, spams on facebook are annoying and that's what happens in forums too. Too much spamming, this isn't the way to do IM.

Yeah I think it all comes down to people not caring about others. Why does it take a major event like 911 or Sandy to bring people together?

Maybe if we can Bomb this whole internet marketing arena then people will not spam so much but offer value and help!

It's not just Facebook. Pinterest is full of spam these days, too, and it really sucks for the marketers who do things the right way.

A lot of the spammy content on Facebook has to do with paid ads that now show up on your timeline. This isn't technically spam, as it's part of the way Facebook is doing business. Like the ads that appear on most YouTube videos.

This may not be what the OP was talking about, but to me this is the most annoying thing on FB. I don't log onto social networks to see ads for cars and insurance.

I still don't get you guys using this word "SPAMMING" as its a big no no word on the net. The biggest "S-WORD" is people like Bill Gates with endless versions & updates across all their products.

Get real and the S-WORD is here to stay

Have a great weekend to all you people who use the "S-WORD" technique!!!!

I have no idea what you are trying to say. Are you saying that we need to create another word for people that post unwelcome and uninvited content in inappropriate places?

Or are you saying that we should just roll over and deal with it because the internet is a steaming pile of garbage anyway so might as well learn to love the smell of stank?

      *boggle*

Either way- let's agree to disagree.

Don't kid yourself. Even events like 9/11 or Sandy saw profiteers crawling out from under their rocks to try and make a quick buck on other peoples' misery.

The irritation at the heart of this thread stems more from opportunists taking advantage of loopholes. Just the latest battle in a war that started when those two a-hole lawyers sent that green card spam years ago. Since then, the opportunists have ruined a lot of things.

I say "profiteers" and "opportunists" because I can't really call them "marketers" any more than I can call vandals "artists"...

Since we're kvetching about Facebook, I have a bone to pick with app developers who insist on designing their apps to only work with the latest, bleeding edge version of their pet browser. Use anything else, or an older version, and your computer hangs up or freezes completely. I don't know if these idiots are just lazy, or they think they can force the world to support their chosen configuration. Oh, and the companies that use these apps aren't doing themselves any favors, either. I'm not feeling especially friendly toward your company or product if checking you out means I have to hard-boot my computer because your cockamamie app froze my machine...

So in theory, you support spamming yet this is on your WF Profile:

"Biography: I am a 24/7 hard working Entrepreneur with forward thinking and always looking for new opportunities"

You're a 'hard working' Entrepreneur with 'forward thinking' and always looking for new opportunities?

That's interesting, being a spammer isn't hard work and maybe your forward thinking consists of the small amounts of money you'll make while doing it.

I agree that FaceBook has become very spammy BUT I do believe a lot of marketers are starting to realize how to actually do things correctly. Here's my two cents

    1. If your a group owner you need to focus on who you put in the group when you start off rather then just adding every single friend you can find. Also monitor it closely in the beginning promoting people to share questions, comments, helpful valuable information. As time moves on remove the spam links and keep the communication open. This does take some manual time in the start but once your group gets big enough hire an assistant to manage the group then you pop in every once in awhile.

A good FaceBook group is extremely valuable if you know what your doing.

    2. If your going to promote on FaceBook, engage your audience. Ask them a question or for an opinion. Ask them to click 'like' if they agree ...direct them. Don't put your sales page link up saying this is the best thing in the world because that is 'Spamming'. Figure out other ways to promote without actually promoting.

I rarely use Facebook for personal matter anymore, but old pages that I've liked have been taken over by spam. Pages that used to be funny and post good content are just posting bitly links and MyLikes links to try and get money. I don't have a problem with people using Facebook to make money, but spamming doesn't get you anywhere.

True, SPAMMING in most marketers eyes and ears are a negative word! Look at very successful marketers like "Frank Kern" We all can simply look in our email inbox to see "spam" for that matter!

BUT when you are dealing with a social networking site like Facebook people do not go on there to read a bunch of advertisments (spam) in bulk. So with that said its comes down to understanding what you are doing and the traffic source you are using. The shift is people want to build relationships today and build that like and trust factor.

Can not blame us because there is just so much volume out there today and with volume comes a lot of rip off artist and people who take advantage. People aren't fooled and have caught up on this and thats where the like and trust factor comes in.

I suppose "spamming" still does work but the conversions are a lot less and today Internet marketing is all about the numbers.

They annoy me too sometimes, but nothing good will ever come of their spamming so they won't make any money from their attempts. It does give internet marketers a bad reputation sometimes, and makes people put all marketers under the black hat category. Some people don't know the difference between marketing and spamming.
