I know this is blatantly obvious but I havent seen it discussed here often so will start a thread about the the topic.

Has anyone else noticed there are people downloading videos from youtube editing them with audio, visual and graphics to make them better (usually funnier) and then re-uploading adding ads and probably making a killing?

I wonder if these guys get into and legal trouble and how many of them do this as a fulltime gig if any at all?

I'd be mighty p*ssed off if someone ripped my videos on YT. It happened once but YT closed down their whole channel when I reported it to them.

  • YouTube would probably simply remove a video and/or account if a complaint is filed as opposed to it leading to serious legal issues. Speaking of filing a complaint, the original copyright owner would have to first become aware that a video infringes his/her rights. The odds of a video owner stumbling upon one of their videos that have been re-edited can sometimes be very slim. I have occasionally "stumbled" across some videos that were taken by our affiliates, such as using screenshots of our products, or even taking our videos, downloading them, re editing them, and then re uploading them. In most cases we let is slide. However, the only reason we find them is because they are promoting our products by name, and they use similar tags etc, thus they are not hard to locate.

All these are possible because of the software’s that are available online nowadays. This intimates that the organization will not do anything about Youtube tearing unless the content holders have clearly affirmed that the users will not be allowed to download their materials from the website. It would be best if Youtube really took action against these locales in place of simply discussing it.

I think some people see being banned as part of the process. They rip off loads of really popular videos and get a link to a site where they can try and monatise this traffic. Their account probably gets banned after a few weeks, so they simply open another one and start again. It's not how I'd like to do business, and surely Google will find a way of stopping this eventually.

Getting banned may not be a huge deal to the individuals who utilize this method. They can still monetize the ripped content before their video or channel is removed.

There are better methods out there than ripping off other people's work.
