organic reach facebook page post ad

5 replies
Hi, I set up a facebook page post ad and got 60 post likes within 5 minutes, but the organic reach of the post is only 13 people (contrary to 700 paid reach). Why that? Are likes worthless for getting traffic now?

      Hi GamesGiant

      Organic reach is referring to the number of people who like your page (lets call them 'fans') who saw the post. So of the people who saw your post, 13 were fans of your page, and the other 700 were not fans and saw the post because it was being advertised to them

      You'll notice with posts (that you haven't advertised), you might receive, for example, 200 likes on average per post. Then all of a sudden one gains legs and hits 5,000. There seems to be a threshold where a post just takes off and it's being show to friends of friends of friends who've liked your post

      Hope that makes sense

        but I should get organic reach through the post likes, so they don't have to be fans of my site already.

          Absolutely you should! But Facebook is making it harder and harder for posts to go viral. After all, they want your advertising money

    made an interesting case stuy, the result, likes are really worthless, shares have value.

    Per 1 like you get 1 viral reach
    Per 1 share you get 5 viral reach

    Let me give some examples:
    Post 1 has 100 likes and 2 shares -> 110 viral reach
    Post 2 has 10 likes and 30 shares -> 160 viral reach

    Facebook viralty is dead :-(

      Yep, we need a time machine to go back to 2009

      Just to add to your above findings though, comments are also great for virality. I can suggest posting pictures which require a response from the user

      The best example would be 'Choose one' posts. So you could have a picture of two people, or two cars, or whatever happens to have some fit with your niche. Then add the letter 'a' above one of them, and the letter 'b' above the other, and ask your fans to choose which one they prefer

      If you do it right, and have a picture that captures their attention anyway, guarantee you'll get tons of comments. Add a 'Like <your page name>!' above the picture, as well as some sort of incentive (e.g. for awesome pictures in your newsfeed, awesome advice, etc.) and you should get a few new likes every time you post something like that
