How to use social media for career/job content?

Hi guys

My first post here, and this seems like a great community. Especially in the Social Media Marketing Forum, there are lot of interesting threads and perspectives.

I am managing a few career-related websites and email lists selling information products. They help people land their dream job, learn to network, write their job application, pass the tests/interviews, etc.

Most of my traffic comes from organic and paid search and this works out well. But I simply can't figure out how to use social media to drive traffic (regardless whether this is to a landing page or to blog)

I think the reasons why this is hard is that job/career topics are a bit taboo. You don't want your friends on Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn to see that you are looking for a job and that you can't figure it out yourself so you need help from some experts. Over and over my customers have told me that they prefer privacy and don't want the world to know that they are using such products. And this is also the case on LinkedIn (especially on LinkedIn).

So the big question is:

How can one use social media to drive non-piad traffic to career/job-related websites or landing pages? (say, to an opt-in landing page where they can get a free ebook on how to get their dream job)

Would be great to hear some other perspectives... maybe I have overlooked something completely!
