My short-lived newbie experience with affiliate marketing on Facebook

Hi all,
First off - Hi, I'm new here. This is a great site, and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time here!

I just wanted to share my experience here in case it helped anyone down the line.
I thought I would get up to speed on Facebook PPC ads. I did some successful Facebook video ad campaigns for my own small businesses, (5% CTR) but I wanted to try out affiliate marketing through FB.

Since this was my first time doing this, I didn't want to chance harming my personal Facebook account, so I created a new account. And thank god I did....
I setup my first ad - I linked to a PeerFly product through a Prosper202 link I setup.

Not even 2 minutes after I submitted the ad, my ads account got disabled:
"Your account has been disabled. All of your ads have been stopped and should not be run again on the site under any circumstances. Generally, we disable an account if too many of its ads violate our Terms of Use or Advertising Guidelines."

After reading even more through WF, and other sites, I found that this is a notorious problem - not only for people trying to do PPC, but for everyday people just wanting to advertise things for their own businesses and pages.

It was a bit confusing because I first got a message that they wanted to verify my credit card, and that I had to send them my ID with my name and address, which I did. Then they sent me a message saying my ad was approved... very confusing. But then I couldn't use the ad manager - the notice above was posted there instead.

So anyway, I know this was discussed here before - just thought I'd describe my experience in case it helps anyone.

I noticed that some other folks around here choose to just keep trying, cycling through pre-paid credit cards and creating new Facebook accounts every time this happens (which sounds like very often), but all that seems way too high maintenance for me.

I'm going to go another route and start going through Chris Farrell's system

Cheers,
Marc

I would suggest leading people to your very own capture page

I haven't had problem doing it that way

Are you capturing their email for your own marketing list, or are you then forwarding them onto the Affiliate link?

Did you lead them directly to an external page? Or did you direct them to a internal FB page i.e. Fan/Like page?

      External page.
I first ran the link through Prosper202 and cloaked it, then added that cloaked link into the ad.

This sentence is why your account got shutdown more so than the affiliate marketing. They consider it fraud if you create a second account for ads if that person is a fake... that's why you got the ID verification and all.

They send out a template email to every account they shut down which you received. They never give a clear explanation either.

If they link your personal account to the fake, they will shutdown your ad account there as well. So don't run any of the same ads and I would upload your ads from a different IP for a the next week or so (just go to a local coffee shop when uploading your ads to do this).

I've been shut down by FB about 5 times and not once was I doing anything illegal. It was stupid things like this that got me in trouble. They just don't take the risk and have zero customer support. Today I have 10 backup accounts just in case going through employee personal accounts :-)... but i pull in big money each month from FB ads, so it would be no bueno if I were completely shut down.

You may be right. I suspected that could be a reason as well. I just didn't (and still don't) want to chance getting my main personal account disabled because someone somewhere didn't like an affiliate link I posted.
I currently run ads for my existing offline businesses using that account, and that would be a big hit.

Given the chance that Facebook can choose to shut you down, and that I have to use 'cloaking' to post an ad, I don't think I want to continue down that path. Just doesn't sit right - I want to enjoy what I'm doing without worrying if I'm breaking some sort of rules.

Are you posting these ads on your own external page?

No, the affiliate link from PeerFly was the final page.

I cloaked that link in Prosper202, and added the cloaked link to the ad.
The cloaked link does nothing more than forward the user to the affiliate link.

If you tried to put a peerfly or similar link directly into the ad, FB won't even let you create the ad - thus the cloaking.

Which leads me to believe that Facebook doesn't want affiliate marketers, and that is why they would disable the account.

So, Pixelclick: Did you buy the course from CPA MasterX? Did he educate you on the subject of running a Peerfly AD?

I ask, because I have an issue, which hasn't process yet... I wanted to send a Dating campaign in FB - but stopped when I spoke with my Account Manager as he said the link has to point external from FB. To a domain. Which I have created with an iFrame code.

Now, I am on the fence about making a purchase on this course, as it seems a little misguided... but if you didn't buy the course and jumped in and discovered after the fact... then that's a completely different story?

Hi, yes - I bought it. He did talk about how to run a Peerfly ad.

      *************UPDATE**************

About 30 minutes ago, Facebook emailed me and re-enabled my account. I just started my campaign, so I guess there is someone paying attention over there!

Just so you know, I re-submitted my photo ID, and included a short message in their web form detailing what happened.

      Here is the email:
      -----------
Thank you for your patience. Based on the information you provided, we have concluded the review of your account and you can now make payments normally. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

So, you did nothing wrong, and everything you learned from the course was on the money?

Because, this is something I hate to have happen to me... as it's very notorious of me sabotaging myself.

I'd done it quite frequency than most cases - especially when it comes to Online marketing. Being I no longer have a valid paypal account at the moment, I figured this avenue could be my salvation of earning some money and re-establishing my account.

I'd made no money at all whatsoever, and this course looks very promising.

As far as mechanics, yes - it works just like he said.

Now its up to me and my skill of picking Peerfly offers and how creative I can be with the ads.

The ad is running now - I'll post back here periodically with results

I jumped in... and in the next four days I should have digest the content of the book and video to get a better understanding of all things needed to proceed. I am truly excited about this one... this is my last chance of making it happen... when I start seeing the money flow in like I should I'll be able to catch up... but I fear the blockage like you receive with fb upon starting... that's probably the issue as things go anyway.

I'm happy to hear you got your account back. I run PeerFly campaigns on Facebook pretty often (usually set up at least one campaign a week in my free time) and I've never had any issues. I run them all on my main Facebook account

    Hi Luke:

Thanks for the mortal support... I am looking forward to diving in the course to get a better understanding of my actions, and figuring this all out... I believe with custom audience and extraction of a FB list to advertise a CPA campaign should narrow the cost through click to be anywhere from around .01 to .50 cent at the most! According to what Chris Blair and Matt Stefanik explained about advertising... hopefully this Social Media Revolution will help?

Diving in to seek the answers.
