Facebook Likes or a List

Hey guys,

I'm going to start running my very first Facebook Ad campaign somewhere next week amd have a small question regarding the topic.

What do you generally advise? Ads for Fanpage likes or ads that link directly to my websites including three articles and an opt-in form?

Regards.

I'd say go for building a list - although this depends on the niche. I've personally noticed people are not in "Buy Mode" on facebook as much as they are when I train them to open emails with valuable content inside.

Thanks for the response. Public Speaking is the niche.

In the context of Facebook Ads, it is best to get Fanpage likes rather than to create your own list. In my testing, it is easier to get likes then optin list. So my advise is that, you get as much like as possible, than build relationship with your fans and you can than monetize your fans without having a list. This will depend on which niche you are in. Some niche will still need an optin list to work better than having a fangpage likes.

Anyone that chooses 'likes' over building a list is 100% certifiable.

You can insert HTML of an opt-in into your FB page.

Then you use the FB ads for generating traffic to your own FB page. I recommend it, because you can save more money than you use an external website. I have tested it.

Going to have to say go for the list. Add a squeeze page or a contest / coupon .. something to get them to signup to the fan page as a tab. Then direct your ads to that tab. If you want you can fan gate it. But the real point is to get signups so you can collect emails and build a list.

I think that the second option (ads that link directly to your websites) is a better choice than the first one. good luck!

Try doing both and see what gets you more of the results you care about the most. Having a bigger fan page helps a lot with credibility but often sending people to your website will work better for calls to action.

I believe they work hand in hand. But I like Brutecky's method. The most important thing is how you implement it and follow it.

Both. Set up a fangate, get the like then require optin for the freebie.

It varies from niche to niche, but I get about 60% of visitors to my gate to like the gate and then about 57 to 65% who like the gate opt in to my list.

I forward the gate to an external squeeze page.

Ad rates to a gate is much cheaper than an external URL (at list this is my experience).

I've embedded optin forms on a FB tab, but AWeber requires double optin (i.e. confirmation) despite my list set up to single optin. This is why I don't embed AWeber forms on FB. I've contact AWeber about this and they say there's no way around it.

Plus, I get quite a few optins on my blog from organic FB traffic so the fans are worth having.

Just my 2 cents and I've tried every configuration (likes only, subscribers only and combos). The above nets me the biggest bang for my buck.

Sending your fans off Facebook from an ad directly to your site is going to get you the most mileage. Just be sure to give the fans reason to actually click through on your ad such as coupon or discount.

I would take the Facebook likes Option, because you will have a cheaper Cost per Like, and then you can still send them to your Squeeze Page after a few weeks, when you've added some good content to your page. Give value to your fans and they will then come into your list

How do you plan to market to these people?

If you can market to them on your Fan Page, then I would build your Fan Page and then build a list inside your Fan Page. This way you can market to them on your Page but also build a list.

This is what I do and I am able to have a positive ROI just from monetizing the page. So this means the list is built for free, while I build a large Fan Page, and while i'm making money with the page.

In public speaking, I would get some YouTube videos up of your speeches and advertise them over building a list or getting Facebook likes. If you don't have any, just get or create an audio of one of your speeches and make a video using pictures and Windows Movie Maker.

I second likes over list building,
it 's more easy to get likes than building
a list via facebook ads, and aside from that
you spend more promoting your optin page
    compare to fanpage.

Other option is to use a free app on facebook
"woobox" to integrate your optin page on facebook
that way you can easily promote your optin page and
    increase your optin rate.

    Hope this helps?
