I believe that Google has stated that things like social shares help it rank videos in the YouTube algorithm. SEO is no doubt trending towards social signals. As far as to what extent that it affects SEO RIGHT NOW I am unsure.

If you use a service like ahrefs.com to check YouTube videos that rank one, ywo, and three for certain keywords you will see that in many cases the higher the rank on the page the more social shares the video has. This could be cause and effect or it could be part of the algorithm. Needless to say shares increase the chance that others will see and interact with your video. This increases the chance of getting backlinks to your video.

The short answer I would say is yes, the extent is questionable.

I would put more faith in sites like Google+ (a Google company social network) if you are going for the biggest SEO benefit. This site consistently has pages and posts that rank high in Google search.

Google +1s leading the way. Rounding out the rest of the top seven are Facebook Shares, number of back links, Facebook total, Facebook comments, Facebook Likes, and Pinterest. Tweets aren’t far behind, coming in at number eight.

Definitely. It is where the people are and it is where you can find the population that you need. And if you want to generate huge traffic for your page, considering social networking sites is something that can really help you. Interaction and engagement are easily stimulated in those places.

Yes, definitely. SEO is very dynamic and unpredictable. Right now, SEO is geared towards social sharing aspect of web traffic and real engagement.

Yes 100%. For example, if you tweet a new post on your site/ or post a link on google+ this will help to get your page indexed. But to the exact extent that it contributed to SEO we cannot be sure

Yes it will but you also have to have other non-passive means like blogs, tweets and Facebook Pages.

As for Facebook pages ranking high, maybe they will if they are related to specific brands. But there is lots of competition for keywords from major brands and sites and Facebook is not Google's number one concern.

Definitely but you have to be strategic about it. Use longtail keywords instead of something short as there will be to many competitors.

Yes. Social proof and social reach is a really big factor in search results and SEO. Activity on the leading Platforms will do nothing but good for your Brand SEO. Also, in addition to Google Authorship, there are rumours (from G+ experts) that Google may also be adding a sort of Publishership so as well as being a Contributory Author on blogs etc, your Brand Page will also be indexed so that Google can find true authoritative Brands which will help in their page ranking.
Ronnie Bincer and Mark Traphagen did a Video about this Recently. The theme was profiles versus pages but this element was also discussed. I highly recommend it. let me know if you'd like the link
