I have a niche and I'm a respected contributor in a forum in this niche.

I am launching my own forum soon and I want to get these people I have befriended on my forum. I have a sig and will use that but I want other ways.

How exactly is this done?

I'm thinking building an email list. Problem is how do I get their emails? Do I simply just ask it? I don't really know them personally but it would be nice if I had their emails. Later on, I can be like.. hey guys check this out myforum.com

But I need to get their emails? Do you recommend this?

How do I do about this? How do I go about it tactfully?

Is there a way of promoting a free info product on the forum like you can here which people if they want access too have to opt-in too?

Think of a way to offer them a value or incentive that they would be willing to give you their email address for.

Your email marketing list is essential to bringing awareness to new products, promotions and newsletters. Through email, your business can create very real relationships with subscribers that may lead to future sales. When you are a new business, your email list is sure to be small if it exists at all. By growing this list, you can expand your consumer base. Let's look at the key areas that you need to focus on, to build a mailing list using the power of forum marketing.
    1) Be Real
    2) Add Value
    3) Forum Signature
    4) Squeeze Page

Have a nice day, hope this will helpful for you.

You could have your own info product series created, such as a video series, not just ebook. Or, simply offer an authoritative white paper on your niche subject for opt in. As for asking others, you would include that in your signature line.

I'd start with a free ebook/report giveaway in exchange for an email address.
You'll need a squeeze page - sometimes simple ones are working better than the super advanced and polished ones... You'll have to test it.
Link to the squeeze page should be in your forum signature.
And you'll have to be very active on the forum plus the forum it self has to be busy itself.
    Good luck

So what I got was that asking for the email is too much.

I think I will go on offering some type of ebook, maybe an excel file with a price-list of something relevant to my niche.

      Thank you all.

You need autoresponder tool such as Aweber or GetResponse. With it, you can collect email addresses in the decent way.

You create a landing page which contain autoresponder HTML code (Aweber or GetResponse) then insert your own url into your forum account - signature box, profile

What everyone here has said. Be upfront that you're intent on collecting email addresses, provide something of value in return to sweeten the deal.

Well some people just straight gave it to me. Some people stopped responding.

I think i'm going the ebook way, cuz I feel like asking people for email just hurts my credibility.

i am also trying to build lists by using forum marketing, but the problem is that the vast majority of respected forums in my niche do not allow me to a post any link in the signature, so I guess the forums are not so powerful anymore ...
