I got mostly traffic from facebook which mostly converted into leads.

There are some tips :-
Be an Active User.
Post Views and Images about your niche related on Regular Basis.
Put Facebook badget in your all websites and blogs.
Properly replies to your fans questions.
Invite your friends.
Run Competitions.
Create Events and Invite Friends.

Social is good at driving traffic and potential leads, but conversions are not the point. Focus on building quality content and an active community, and use it in conjunction with time-limited offers etc on your site for sales.

Facebook is a great conversion tool for me to establish proof of what I know how to do. YouTube ads are proving awesome for generating leads and establishing that same proof. Twitter has been great for raising my Klout score and SEO but not much else. LinkedIn has got me great advice but few clients. Google+ has helped with using hangouts and to create my videos and get them on YouTube plus ranking high but not done much for business. This is different for everyone and usually specific to how you use it. Test out different approaches on all networks and see what gives you the best results!

I do get sales from social media. I get the best results by joining groups on Facebook related to my niche and actively participating in the groups. It does take time and you have to build relationships.

Now days most of the people spent their lot of time on social network sites such as facebook and other sites which you already know.

Therefore, promoting company and products on social network sites are really beneficial these days.

Most of the companies has accepted this rule and they are regularly updating their social network profile and post with information.

Now coming to your point, if you are promoting your website on social network sites and they are coming to your website then it proves that you are earning money from social network sites.

I suggest you buy ads through Facebook and send traffic directly to your fan page.
You should place an ad that gets people to like your page, then you can offer contests etc and it also has the potential to go viral. Also you can place your affiliate links as well as good content ie: videos and quotes. People love quotes, they can inspire!

i got some fast success from facebook promoting stuff related to FB games, like farmville and mafiawars
But that was not long lasting

However pinterest is doing really good for me and i am getting passive sales through pinterest traffic

From personal experience, search has been far more effective then social. I think of social as display advertising, which has historically been and continues to be a brand marketing exercise.

Search on the other hand is unparalleled as an advertising medium in terms of targeting and overall effectiveness.

Much depends on your product/service and audience however.

This is what I do too. Publish a great pre-selling article on your website. If your merchant offers article landers or the 2 page sales process link to those. Create a status update link on FB and use a great title and image. Then promote it with FB ads for more traffic. If it earns more than your ad costs, ramp up your daily budget and run it as long as you can.
