What is the average CTR for a Facebook ad?

A client is asking me what the average CTR is for a Facebook ad - and I've seen a few sources note that Facebook doesn't publish this.
Where could I go for an idea of what it would be?
thanks!

It all depends on the price you're bidding on for the ad. Facebook tends to position you on better CTR spots when you set a higher bid. It also depends on the ad content too but I would usually get an average of 5% CTR when advertising for less general niches.

      Thanks!
I'm also wondering, what about when I'm paying per 1000 impressions? As opposed to a PPC campaign like what you're mentioning?

  • My highest CTR is an amazing 16.305% (see screen shot) and I get some of my lowest CPC on these high CTR campaigns:

    11.01.2013-18.20.19 - sherrikirklin's library

I usually leave my campaigns set at Optimized CPM until I have some stats and then can use the info to bid per click.

      Hey there!

Do you set it so that it's optimized CPM with just a Clicks bid and zero for the others? or do you let it do the optimized CPM automatically?

Trying to figure out how to improve CTR and then CVR. I've got CTR at 1.89% but CVR is 0%. But I should, according to Facebook, get some more targeted audience likes and engagement. I think this is true but who cares about that if CVR is 0% right? lol

Anyways, just curious if you use oCPM with just a clicks bid and then see what a good CPC might be? Did I understand that right and is that the case?

It depends upon niche and on the type of the ads. If you have an ad that gets anywhere north of 0.5%-1% on RHS and 1.5-3% on Newsfeed ads, it would normally translate into a good campaign.

    Hi,
    It depends upon your consideration.

I find that with an 0.08 – 0.12 CTR you can get lots of cheap traffic that converts well.

Most ads on Facebook probably get 0.02-0.06 CTRs (this is not verified information, just what I hear), and some people are very satisfied with the results even with those low CTR’s.

Hello, Here are some benchmarks that you can use based on very broad/aggregated targeting and campaign types. There are outliers well above the "Optimal Range" but most advertisers cannot achieve them due to their various constraints.

    Optimal CTR: 0.11%-0.16%
    Above Avg CTR: 0.07%-0.09%
    Average CTR: 0.04%-0.05%
    Below Avg CTR: 0.02%-0.03%
    Poor CTR: 0.01%

    Have a nice day

CTR is no longer the most important stat on Facebook and you should tell your client that the average CTR is not relevant. The cost per action that the client wants to accomplish is the only metric that matters. If they want likes, that is the cost per like. If they want web traffic, cost per click. If they want sales, cost for a conversion. The CTR for most campaigns does not matter now because of optimized CPM pricing.
