Where do you get your free photos for Facebook pages (or other social platforms)?

Photos seem to be a good thing to share on Facebook pages, but most people are having a free-for-all, using whatever photos appeal to them and their audience, with no thought to copyright laws and ownership. This seems like a good way for a business to get itself in trouble.

What's your solution for finding great free photos to use? Flikr's creative commons section is a hassle to search through because the results often have hundreds of non-relevant photos uploaded by the same user.

And how do you give credit to creative commons photos used on Facebook without taking away from the traffic you're trying to get back to your own site?

the basic rule of thumb with meme's is that nobody owns that content, so just get a ton of meme's.

    Hi,

One of my favorite places to find photos is actually a collection of websites. Depending on the type of photo I'm looking for I'll head to some of the US Government websites. I always use Shutterstock to find images for my fb page. The images available are very useful and interesting to me.

    Have a nice day

I mentioned this and the reason why I don't find it ideal in the OP. But thanks.

Just running over to Pinterest is no better than grabbing whatever you want out of Google Images (unless I'm missing something) and you can get in legal trouble that way. I'm not just looking for unique pictures - I'm looking for unique pictures that are legal to use for business purposes.

Or at least trying to wrap my mind around why a lot of other marketers seem to think it's a nonissue.

Is this just a subject most have decided to look the other way on and take their chances?

I often use freedigitalphotos.net for free photos and I just make an attribution the author. Sometimes I use Flickr if I can't find anything on the above.

  • For those of you who are using free photos but giving credit, how are you doing that on Facebook? Are you putting a link in the caption for every image? A link in the posts where you use that image? Adding in a watermark?

Do you worry about sending traffic to the image owner instead of your site? I don't worry about this when I use creative commons images on my blog, but on a blog post, the image is not the main focus. On Facebook posts it often is.

Hoping for some hands-on advice from someone who does a lot of FB or social marketing. Thanks.
