News Feed link ads to mobile apps?

I'm looking to advertise for an app on the iOS store but do not have an SDK or any other install tracking method, so what I have done is create page post link ads that run on mobile and link to the app store page that has the app. Has anyone tried this or heard of someone trying it? Obviously the recommended ad for an app is indeed a Mobile App Install Ad. However I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has ever used this "workaround"
