Facebook Page Copyright Infringement of Photos?

Hi,

Many images are from the public domain, while many images are made by those who wish for them to be spread freely and seen by others, without needing credit. Many images are also offered by websites who want their images to be reposted on other web pages for free branding. The Page Name or URL in the image gives credit.

But sometimes problems can still occur.

I'm wondering about those huge Faceboook pages with several hundred thousand or millions of fans.

Do you use images from other places? If so, have you run into problems with copyright? What are the ways you deal with it?

Do you put disclaimers?

Do you put links to the original page?

Do you discuss with each one individually to come up with an arrangement?

Do you ask for permission first? Or do you act first and respond later?

Do you check to see whether others are already using the photos freely to decide using them yourself?

Have you ever been reported, and if so how many times? How do you respond?

You will not have any copyright infringement of photos is you put on the source of the photo. Like picture credits to: blahblahblah.com

Even if you plan on using someone else's photo (that has their name on it) it is best to ask the person who owns it.

Many times the person who is in the photo, won't be the person that owns the photo

      Completely wrong.

Try doing this with a 'Getty' picture and you'll get a huge amount of trouble.

Flipflops comment is 100% not true. Go read the facebook terms on this: https://www.facebook.com/legal/copyright.php

I got my page temporarily suspended over a false copyright infringement report from a pissed off former administrator of my page. He claimed that images and text that HE HAD POSTED were on my page without his permission.

Facebook deactivated my page while giving him a period of 10 to 15 business days to file against me in court. Of course he didn't, because he was full of sh#$, and they reactivated my page.

Honestly, if your page is still small, you probably won't draw much attention, unless you're really reckless. But as your page grows, I'd recommend caution.

Moral of the story: Use images that are public domain, or creative commons. I use flickr creative commons attribution license, over 50 million images available, all you have to do is credit the source
