  • Are you asking whether the hummingbird algorithm has made social media more or less important as a ranking factor?

All social sites we normally use in daily life like facbook, twitter, google+, stumbleupon, pinterest ect all are high PR sites, and they have a great positive effect on SEO.

Social signals were already a part of the algorithm before Hummingbird, so I don't believe there was any change there.

Hummingbird had more to do with Google identifying user intent better when querying the engine. The algorithm now focuses more on the real meaning behind the keywords a user types, so search is becoming more "conversational."

yes, i agree with you, hummingword focus on the word of user query, but does google include like and comment as votes for ranking.

SMO had played great role in driving traffics to website. Hence it was earlier a factor among other by search engines including Google to show search. Now with Google's Hummingbird Socila medi became more important than earlier. Google trying to compete with Facebook so they are intergating G+ in search hence the role of it will effect ranking for sure.

Yes the new update must have put some more importance to social signals, also i have seen that they are also giving importance to average time spent by users and also bounce rate
So there are couple of things which will reveal by some experimentation and time

But one thing is sure, social signals and great content are vital if you want your site to have some good rankings on search engines
