FB post - how come more post shares than link clicks ?

I am driving traffic from my FB page to my website by creating an image post in FB. The image in the FB post is related to an article in a my website and the image has the article title. I have the link to the article in the FB post itself (the text message). The image is very simple and it has the name of the article across it.

I have noticed that my FB posts in my Fan page get much more shares than link clicks.

Here is what I don't understand: how can someone share a FB post about the article in my website when he or she hasn't even read the article. I just don't get it. Aren't you supposed to read the article first and then decide if you want to share the post ? many times the ratio between link click to shares is 1:10(1 click for every 10 shares) - this would indicate that 9 people who shared the post didn't even read the article. In addition: the image itself is not really interesting so I can't see any reason for sharing it by itself.

Am I missing something ?

People prefer to get the post idea / summary by looking at the post title and description only. I guess Brutecky is correct.

Thanks - but I just don't get it and here is why: For example I can use an image of tennis ball and have the title: "The best 10 methods to improve your tennis skills". I don't see how they can get the idea from the image. They didn't read the article so they don't know anything about it but they still choose to share it. I just don't get it. They cannot get anything from the image.

For general posts, people try and get evaluate a link from the image itself. But not when you have a post like Top 10 methods tp improve your tennis skills or or an intriguing post that raises curiosity.

Try to create a teaser of the article and not the Title itself.
Something that people will want to read after they read the teaser.

people will share things for their friends benefits. They might not be interested in Tennis, but they might have 5 friends who do like Tennis, so they share your post to help their friends.

Also, most people share things just to get some likes from their friends, because they are that boring and sad that they cant come up with unique and interesting things to post on their facebook, so they share what they think their friends will like so that they receive some social gratification from their online peers.

Sometimes, people are not really into the article, but think a friend might be, so they will share on their own page, just in case someone on the friends list needs that info. Possibly these people who are sharing, think your article could be of use to friends who are interested in that subject.

True that. Even I do it. I share the health related posts with my friends who are into health business or doctors etc.
