Using a comedy page to make an income..how?

I've talked to a couple page owners who claim they are making $300 a week w/ 400 thousand likes but they won't let me in on how they are doing it.

I see links being posted to redirect the fan base to a different page a couple times per day and I figure this is how but I still don't understand the complete process.

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth investing in Facebook ads and getting my money back in the future.

Spend $ to make $ ?

That's the page I'm mainly talking about. I've talked to that admin. As you can see she places links which drives traffic to places that aren't her page.

If you follow the links they are posting, you'll discover they're making use of this...

    Publishers - Overview - MyLikes

...so I would assume that's where the majority of their income is coming from at the moment.

Can a page of 400k likes earn $300 a week off of something like that?

Sure. This is the website associated with the fan page...

    Humoriscontagious.com -

...an example of what MyLikes provides publishers with.

The MyLike's option seems to be an easy option but would be very limited in scope as to what you could actually do outside their publishing system.

The alternative is to setup your own domain and redirect fans back to that to get access to the "full" content you're posting (a technique we use) and then earn revenue from AdSense / 3rd Party Ad Networks / Affiliate products and so forth.

Depending on how large the fan base is (and how active it is as well – which depends a lot on the kind of content you’re posting) you could expect to get around 2-5k+ unique visitors from a single post made to a fan page of 400k fans. That is a “generalization” however and as mentioned depends on a bunch of different factors. Going down this path however gives you better ability to earn $300+ per DAY, rather than per week.

Hmm. What would be the best type of page to use My Likes to the greatest benefit? It seems to be a broad range of things that are funny/crazy/sexy..

I could probably make more $ off such a thing if I broaden my niche?

I would strongly suggest you actually narrow your niche. Funny Memes (or cat Memes) isn't really a niche. Not one you'll find easy to generate decent revenues from.

You want to find a topic that people are really passionate about think "classic cars" - or "ice fishing" – etc and so on.

Then setup your own domain and site and serve them content they want. Bring them back to your site with each post, earn revenue from AdSense, affiliate products, build your email list etc. and start to build a real asset.

Main problem seems to be if I'm not interested in it, I will fail so it has to be something I'm interested in which is why I chose comedy.

      Exercise/Body Building
      Video Games
      Pro Wrestling
      NFL
      MLB
      Nascar

Those are probably my top 6 passions. Which one would you choose to make money off of? Are any of them good?

Any of those areas you listed (with the exception of video games which is also pretty broad) would be much better than humor. They're much more targeted and have passionate fans.

There are plenty of different ways to monetize a fan page. I'm not familiarly with monetizing using MyLikes, but to be completely honest, $300 is very low for page that large.

I'm guessing they are using that strategy because it's a safe method to use with Facebook. I have fan pages which only have 20k-50k and they made $100-$1,000 a day at times.

Plus I build a list along the way. It seems that page is not building a list which is leaving a lot of money on the table for them.

How/Why are you building a list and how is that making you more of an income? If you don't mind me asking..

An email list allows you to market to those users in the future.

I make my list while I profit from the page. So I can make money now, but also make money from them in the future. Plus it's a free list! Where else can you make a free highly targeted list while you're already making money

As dcmarketer said, if one day something happens to your Fan Page, at least you didn't loose everybody

I prefer building the list straight from the fan page. I don't personally use my Fan Page to drive traffic to a website that I own so I do it a bit differently.

I promote products and offers directly on my Fan Page. Then I will offer giveaways and say you need to enter "here". That "here" link would be a landing page I made to collect the opt-ins.

    James,

You should always aim to build an email list.

Regardless of your traffic source/s - whether Facebook, Pinterest, SEO, any form of paid advertising as well - if for whatever reason one or more of those traffic sources dries up or disappears, you'll always be able to drive traffic back to your site from your mailing list. It’s the most valuable asset of any online business.

I guess I just don't know how to build an email list with facebook likes. How do I get the fans' email addresses? A sign up for newsletter app? That's the only thing I can think of..

    James,

There are numerous ways to do it and it depends largely on the business models of different people - but in simple terms what you want to do is use the audience you build on Facebook, and drive it back to a website you control.

You do that by posting "socially cool" content to your website / blog - and then pushing that content out to your Facebook fan page and other social media accounts as updates. Your fans and followers then have to come over to your blog to get the full skinny on that information. This is how you’ll generate traffic.

On that website, that's where you'll build your mailing list and also generate revenues from advertising on the site - whether 3rd party ad networks like AdSense, affiliate products, and / or your own products or services.

Still keeping things real simple - if all your mailing list does is send out a daily or weekly email highlighting the most recent posts / content made to your website (or most popular) then that's a good start. At least it’s something.

If you are looking to sell sponsored posts on FB I can pay you quite well depending on how much traffic you can send. Most of the guys I work with are paid $300+ daily for the traffic sent to me. Shoot me a PM
