Brand Name vs Personal Name... which is better?

If you have the option to choose, do you feel it's better to use a brand name or your personal name for social media marketing?

I know each has it's pros and cons, but which do you feel is better and why?

    People buy from you because of YOU. I have a fan page for my site on facebook that I actively use and have engagement with. However I've found I get more engagement and leads from my personal page (because I'm always actively talking to people) When it comes to pinterest, linkedin and twitter it's more branding myself.

    I think it's important to recognize each platform and approach them for what they're used for and what kind of company your trying to brand.

    Ex. facebook: I like to make donuts
    twitter: I'm making donuts #yum
    linked in: Learn how to make donuts
    pinterest: see the donuts I just made

    Hey Victor,

    Guess it depends on what your primary objectives and end goals are.

    If you plan on an exit strategy with whatever your building, providing associated social media accounts with the site are obviously an integral part of the sale to get maximum return – especially if they are large part of the traffic / lead generation equation for the related website.

    That’s gonna be hard to do if you’ve gone personal (i.e. YOU) on social media and are using your personal networks to drive that exposure to your project. Example - the social media accounts of Mashable aren’t the name of the owner of Mashable – they’re related to the brand.

    So if you’re looking at it on a project by project basis, and it makes sense to, go with the brand your building to enhance its value. You can always be the “name” or “go to guy” behind that brand if you choose to be or it’s required – simply by attaching your name to the social media content you’re pushing out there i.e. “YOU from BRAND”.

    If you’re looking to increase your personal social media following for whatever other reason (i.e. personal networking), then go with you.
