Is it Important to be active on LinkedIn?

Hello,
Till date I was never active on LI. But recently LI has come up with showcase pages and we know that you can create Biz pages in LI too..

So is it important to build your profile, make connections and show your portfolios in LI. I am a web & graphics designer by profession.

My main aim is to get clients... Do you think LI will help me in that?

What is your experience on this. Do you get Leads, business, earning from LI? Do you think that its worth to give time to LI or its just like "Yes you should use it as its home to millions of genuine professionals worldwide" but at the end of the day it just remains as another decorated social media account for yourself?

As I said its my main intention to get clients.. So shall I give time to LI or rather concentrate on odesk & freelancer to get earnings?

    If your sole Target is to get clients then Big NO!
    If you are trying to increase your business network and let other people know of your biz , then you should definitely take LI seriously

    I think your profile attracts the visitors on the linkedin. So having a good profile summary is very necessary for brand optimization.

    Well i tried similar thing on linkedin and did not got any satisfactory results, what i have got about linkedin as of my experience is that it is a community to grow your career instead of selling services..
    You can connect with people discuss how you can improve your career find right job, interviews, recruitment, things like that
    If you want to have good results with your services i would recommend to start sales thread on different forums including this one, i am sure you can get very good results if you can do something in landing page design or similar

    Linkedin is good for professional network...problem is to utilise the entire benefits you have to be a paid members....for non paid members all features of are not available....so for long term it require hue investment...
