Using Facebook for list building

I am going to start building a list in a non IM niche. I have created an opt-in page and the whole nine but now I am thinking about using Facebook mainly. I am pretty sure that the majority (if not all) of the people I am going to be targeting use facebook.

Im thinking of creating a facebook page to get subscribers and interact with. I will still send out emails and things but the page will be posted to daily and I will interact daily with the group members and use the fb page to sale products as well.

The products are all created by me and I plan on releasing 1 - 2 products per month that I will sell. Anything else will be freebies and just convo so the members will get to know me.

I am not sure of my price points yet but these products are def of value and in demand in my niche.

Maybe I'll run some monthly contests and stuff...

I do have one concern though. Im not sure if trying to sell to an open group like this is a bad idea vs privately via email. Maybe this will make them feel less special...make it feel less intimate? Will this make the product seem less valuable? I hope this makes sense -what Im trying to ask haha ...

I would like to think that some of you have used Facebook in this way, if so, what kind of problems did you run into, if any? Have you had more success utilizing email only?

I've done both. It just depends on the niche which is the best overall approach, but in general it is much easier to sell to them by email than by posts on Facebook.

With Faceboook pages, for me, there is more daily involvement in order to build trust and maintain the engagement with the folks that are interested in the content at the page. Need to post multiple times per day and reply to questions and participate in comments daily to keep the interest level high.

I used to do the two step community growing on Facebook
I had a Iframe installed using a app which is free, just search FBML Iframe app in facebook and you will find it, In this app you can add two of your page the one page is landing which says to download this amazing ebook click like, once like is clicked the next page loads which was in fact an opt in page, so the users had to fill form to get their ebook
So i was increasing my FB page likes and list one at the same time
The most free traffic i bought was from youtube i would just make couple of videos with different title and tags and direct traffic to my page

Also i would not recommend you to open important information in group or page must remain with your email list so it can remain special

One of the best ways to build a list with Facebook is to run a contest, discount, or giveaway of some sort that requires people to opt in to enter. You can then run a targeted ad to the tab to get traffic to it.

I guess my main reason for using facebook is to build trust and a relationship....i post daily on my regular facebook ... random things...questions.. all kinds of things.... should i just allow them access to me on my reg facebook? The option to friend/subscribe to me so they can get to know my personality? Or should i create a seperate page for this purpose?
