Facebook Algorithm Change

Hi,

I'm handling a Facebook Page with a few thousand followers and since Facebook announced its latest News Feed ranking change, the reach of my Page posts dropped significantly. If understand well, the changes went live immediately.

I haven't yet analyzed exported data as the change has been rolled out on Dec 2nd, only checking Insights.

The weird thing is, FB is supposedly helping original content to emerge with the change. I'm mostly sharing own blog posts and articles.

Have you also experienced this?
What is the remedy? Or should I just get used to this?

Get more engagement on your posts. That's the only remedy I know. More people interacting with the post tells facebook it's high quality. Comments are one of the best for this, because people will comment on high quality stuff more than they will on memes.

Don't get used to it...roll with it...by the time you get used to it, they will change it again.

It's just easier to like a meme than take time to comment as most are designed to either be funny or convey a sentiment rather than spark conversation. Actually publishing content on the Facebook page, not just linking to it or giving 'useful links' to content is a good way to gain engagement or conversation with page participants.

Yes Facebook has made changes to its algorithm. This is a bad news for most of the page managers. But this change has not affected all the pages but it will do in the future.
        What this new changes mean?
Almost all types of post will have a decreased reach hence decreasing your over all page engagement.

        Why the change?
Facebook stated that these changes were for two reasons
        1. To improve the user experience.
        2. If page managers want more engagement and reach on their post then they would have to use ads. Hence they are focusing on selling their ads here.

        What you can do?
If you have the budget you can use Facebook ads.
Another way would be to create highly engaging contents that your fans would share, comment and like. This will tremendously increase your post reach.

Oh, I didn't realize they'd changed their algorithm, that will explain why I've seen a drop in the reach of my posts on Facebook. At least I understand a little more on what has gone on. Thanks.

Thanks for this post. I noticed the dip, but had not caught the news on the changes. Facebook is like the weather, difficult to predict, and changes all the time.

The change in Facebook algorithm is not to encourage original content. It is rather to encourage high quality content. It is more important now to link to a quality article that engages and provides value to your fans.

What you should do is to create, curate, or link to quality content over the web. Quality has always been the major emphasis in Facebook but now good content is rewarded more.

You HAVE to be employed by a facebook PR firm, no sensible person would make such a statement. It's not bad enough all these firms / brands / companies promote facebook, they pay facebook to get those fans. Now facebook is forcing everyone to pay to REACH their fans that they already paid for.

There are tons of interesting fanpages/websites who have been hit by this, sites that provide quality content to people who want to see their posts. Post reach dropped by 60% across entire facebook.

      tl:dr version:
Facebook changed algo so only corporations with deep pockets can grab the top newsfeed spots.
