Adding Facebook Friends Locally?

What are some neat ways to add friends locally without getting banned on facebook? I've come to the point where I have been banned for 30 days before, I don't want to risk that again. I'm sure there are some creative ways to get people to add me instead? Or I can add them without receiving a ban? I want to get 5000 on facebook, I'm at 1600. It felt like a long journey.

    With local, are you referring to people you actually know in real life or just people who are local to your own area? Those people would not really be considered 'friends' which could explain the temp ban by Facebook.

      Facebook is supposed to be about connecting with friends. But over the years, it's been used for spamming. An internet marketer will go to Facebook and set up a legitimate looking profile and then start rapidly adding 'friends' and then spam those people via private message with 'friendly' requests that they visit his or her links. Over time, Facebook developed a low tolerance for people adding mass quantities of friends or sending mass friend requests.

    Join groups that are related to something interesting to you like a discussion group or a group that focuses on a particular hobby that you are interested in. What you will do next is communicate and leave comments and messages in the discussion panels and on people's profiles within the group. This will create interest in the participants in the group.

    Also, if you try to add friends you don't really know, people get annoyed and report it. Facebook even asks "do you know this person in real life?" If too many people say no, it's obvious to FB what you're doing so they ban you.

    No offense to the OP, but why would I want to be your friend if I don't know you?
