Blogging for content vs blogging for seo

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up a blog for our business. The aim is to create a blog with very high quality content which would be written by professionals. Due to this posts would not be posted that often, as the person writing the blog is very busy and the focus would completely be on quality than quantity. However, as part of our SEO efforts, we also want to have tons of "keyword rich" blog posts and do marketing to get links to those blogs. The quality of the content on these keyword rich blogs. may not be the same, as these articles would be outsourced to article writers, as opposed to professionals in the field. I wonder, what would be the best way to set this up?

Should we set-up an onsite blog with high quality content and then set-up an offline one, with the lower quality seo posts. And then someone link the seo posts back to our website? Would appreciate any suggestions on this.

Thanks

I don't see that approach paying off because your not going to get 'good' link juice from the lesser quality blog post sites. What I would do is keep all of your content on one blog. Fill in lesser post around the 'high quality' post. I would also have high quality content writer guest post on high ranking blog in your niche with link back to your site.

Thanks. I like the idea of the HQ Content writer, making guest posts on other forums. About the link juice, do you say this is because, all the links would be coming from a single blog? While, I do see the limitation of this, as long as the second blog can send traffic (and not necessarily help with the rankings) that would be an acceptable result.

We would love to make this happen. However, this is a specialised area and to produce the HQ Blog posts, would take a long time for each post and the cost for paying the specialist writer is quite high, so for budgeting reasons, we would this to be a slow ongoing process. This would also help maintain the quality of the posts.

And, what niche are you specializing in? Is it some type of medical or scientific field? I'm wondering if there is a bank of writers online who might offer high quality professional writing services for your field. If I knew the niche, I could look for this online.

Hi Samuel, it would be "international trade", i.e. "import/export/logistics/Manufacturing in China". Would love to know if you could recommend a source for specialized writers, as this is something I am looking for.

  • If your SEO keywords are relevant, I don't think it would be hard to find a way to insert those keywords into your high quality blog posts. That way, you give great content and you're still able to do some SEO. I think that would be the best approach.

I suggest you use the lesser quality articles on the same site and focus on doing guest blog posts on other authority sites in your niche for more exposure and traffic

Always quality over quantity. It doesn't matter if the blog posts aren't going to be often, so long as you are consistent and you provide info that people need. You could do some guest blogging, so long as it was highly relevant to your niche, with good influencers to build out your circle of influence. Why not concentrate more on syndicating your content via social media and building our your audience in more than one place, rather than expecting people to just turn up at your blog.

I have never understood why a blog post can't be both. Good content and well done from an SEO perspective. Keyword rich posts are very old school and do not do as well as well-written posts using natural language.

No reason why you can't work your keyword phrase into the title of your post and into the body of the content in a natural way. It takes some work and a bit of rewriting sometimes, but in the end you will have a great blog filled with excellent content which has the capability of ranking well.

After interviewing many SEO and content pros for a podcast, the consensus is that average to poor quality content using keywords to attract visitors is an old-school, ineffective strategy. Just use your online blog and focus on quality posts. If you want to generate more eyeballs, cross-promote the posts with social media (make this more of a tease that sends people to the actual post rather than just putting the entire post on Facebook, etc.). If you can, create an infographic using one of any free services that come with customizable templates. You'll get a lot more traction with an infographic that other people can reference and use on their own blogs (with a link back to the original source, of course).

    Quality over quantity every time.

If you produce something of real quality, and ensure you've got social sharing mechanisms in place, you're far more likely to find it will attract shares etc, which in the longer run will generate traffic, links and authority....

...and if its on your company blog, what you write there will be a reflection on your company.....spammy content will position your company in that vein, whereas quality, measured content can help you position your company as an authority and a genuine company....
