How I turned $20 in FB ads into $50 profit...

What's up? Yesterday, I posted about a free technique I used to sell $115 worth of teespring tshirts with only about 2 hours of work and Facebook.

Check it out here to get the full story to this ad campaign: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...rst-100-a.html

To get my profit from Teespring, I still needed to sell a few more to hit my goal though. So last night, I started a quick ad campaign to make sure I sell those last few and if I'm lucky, I knew I would get an ad I could continue to run for the campaign to keep selling the shirts.

Whenever I'm trying to get buyers directly to an offer, I don't like to use sidebar ads. They have done okay for me in the past, but I've always had a lot more success with newsfeed ads that are larger and get my message across more easily.

To do this, you need to create a fan page that's associated with your ad. I made a quick Auburn Wins fan page and got on with creating my ad.

When I'm using FB ads to get buyers to my offer, I make sure to let it all out in the ad. I don't want to be deceptive just to get people on my page. I have to pay for every click... so I want to make sure my clickers know they are going to have to pay money for what I'm sending them too.

Here's a look at what my ad ended up looking like and how it did...

This ad did pretty good for getting people on my offer page. There was one problem though... These viewers didn't buy the tshirt that often. The conversions were pretty low overall for buyers. A lot of these viewers clicked the LIKE button on the teespring sales page (which helped with referral traffic), but they didn't click buy.

I made a quick change that really helped make this ad a winner though. As you can see above, I was targeted groups of Auburn fans that would rather like a page than buy a product. These interest groups would be great when running a LIKE campaign to a fan page... but not that great for finding highly targeted buyers (as we saw).

So, I changed my targeting to hit only those interest that are used to buying Auburn goods... I didn't find many that would work, but I found enough...

As you can see in the picture above, I targeted only auburn university bookstore and tiger rags. Now as an old Auburn student, I know that the University bookstore sells a ton of Auburn gear. I've probably spent thousands of dollars there for books, mugs, shirts, etc. Those people that like that interest are definitely Auburn buyers. Tiger Rags is a local Auburn store that sells memorabilia for the school. These interest likers are definitely buyers too.

We got a little better numbers for this ad...

The real difference maker is that these viewers are buying the shirt. We've gotten 3 sales from this ad alone so far... spending around $3 on it. That's about $7 profit per dollar invested!

Now, the original ad wasn't a complete loss. Teespring does this awesome move by using retargeting to get those who have viewed your tshirt campaign to continue to see advertising for it on Facebook. This is ad money you're not spending a dime on, but you still can make the profit. From the original ad, we've gotten a few buyers overnight from this retargeting and I expect to have a few more come in from it as well.

So there you go... That's the campaign I started a few days ago and have banked well over $150 total so far from it and I spent a total of 2 hours in the process. Now, I'm continuing this process in every other buzz niche I can think of... and of course, I've started to build an Auburn fan page to keep selling the goods over the next few years.

Give it a shot! You won't regret it.

Cool post Petelta. Easy and profitable. But do not stop at building your fanpage on Facebook. If you want to make much more money you should funnel your fans to your email campaign.

Most of the money is made in email correspondence where you have complete control. Mix your status update to include both value-adding posts and lead generating posts.

i totally agree, now I admit having a fan page is like having a list...well sort of, but when we tested, and bought fan page > to websites > optin pages we found you have more control, and people are more likely to buy. At least in our testing that is how we did it.

You just need a sneaky way to get your fans onto your email without being all spammy, we have a great way, but will not be revealing it on here, cause I do not see anyone else doing it, but its giving us more direct control.....and getting fan pagers onto your list, is the best thing you can do....as they are more targeted, and likely to become a fan of yours in real life and buy stuff when you recommend it to them.

Paul, my brother, you took the proverbial words right out of my mouth!

Build the list, refer to other t-shirts and products, and in 90 to 120 day's time this could be a full-time business model.

Better yet, build a Google Plus page and if you can get people to add you, Google will never blackmail your Google Plus page and all your posts will go to everyone in your circles gmail account.

Nice job! How did you start bidding. I have tried on 2 different niches and suggestions say 6-11 cents per click. I put it at 12 and it doesn't reach anyone.. Then I put it at double that and still hear crickets even when I put $50 budget. I only get clicks with optimized cpm which gets me 20-30 cent website clicks. Single digit website clicks would be nice!

I always bid at the highest suggested. In your example, I would of bid 11 cents.

Getting reach on your ad depends on how much your ad is getting clicked more than how much you bid. You might not be targeting the right interests or maybe your ad copy/picture need to improve.

Good case study. Lowering cost in FB ads is the key to make money.

For my experience, I prefer to use CPM method than CPC method because I can make the entire cost to be lowered at FB ads.

I like to use CPC when I have a very distinct buyer's market. I use CPM to grow my fan pages.

You went to the wrong campaign. I still got 7 days on the one I shared. I do typically end up doing 2-3 different tshirt designs in the beginning since I never know what's really goin to take off.

How come you're able to bid the max suggested cpc and get traffic?...I'm suggested 0.9-0.18$ and bidding 0.26$ isn't getting me impressions on a demo reach of 260k people

Sometimes Facebook just isn't going to show your ad for a while. I had this issue the past week on a lot of my campaigns. If you let the ads sit for a while, they usually eventually get shown. I had about 50 ads waiting this past week and then they decided to show them all at once.

Sometimes, they show it right away.. then if people click it, they will show it more. If they don't click and your conversions are horrible, your ad won't be shown anymore and sometimes they even will pause it altogether.

So, if it's gotten zero impressions so far even though you're bidding max suggested big, I say let it sit for a while. If it doesn't get shown for the next day or 2, then delete those and submit them again.

It could be because you're from Morocco. They kind of rule with an iron fist at Facebook and close accounts down for no reason often.

I had my first ad account closed down for "suspicion of fraudulent activity". When I asked what that means or what I did, they had no explanation and said I'm got closed as a precautionary measure... so, they shut me down just in case I was doing things illegally... lol

I run my ads through a friend's Facebook account now. I would suggest finding someone in the US that don't use Facebook and use their account for your ads.

I've sent a message to facebook include my National ID and now I got my account back, and It's linked to my Paypal account. Now I'm afraid about the Facebook rules, because I've read in many forum posts that they close the accounts of affiliates without reason, I think that facebook is one of the best advertising boards, and I should be careful when using it.
        Thank you!

Facebook advertising (FB ads) are profitable when you know what you are doing and sure you know when to change your targeting and how to analyses your campaign stats. Where others would have given up and considered the campaign a loss or one with no potential, you know that changing the targeting could give the results you were looking for.

And thanks for this free information which is very helpful for the community, especially those who are action takers. There is money to be made by action takers
