What is considered a "successful" viral video?

So I am going through various Youtube videos that have several millions of views, and it occurred to me that some of these videos, while having millions of views, actually have a large number of "dislikes". In this case, would it still be considered a "successful" viral video? If the point of the video is just to get as many viewers as possible, I suppose it could be considered successful. However, the fact that so many people disliked it makes me think it was unsuccessful. So from a marketing point of view, was it successful or not?

Here's an example of a video I am talking about:

It really depends on your definition of success.

Viral videos tend to be a gimmick and gimmicks tend not to attract long term customers. I wrote an article recently for RealSEO that explains why gimmick/coupon shoppers tend to be the worst customers.

Let's compare viral videos to Super Bowl commercials. The audience tends to remember the commercial and rarely associates it with the brand. Do you really think your ideal customer is watching the entire "viral" video for your non-related web site or info at the end or during the video?

While it may drive up the value of that one channel rarely are those channels leveraged for other marketing initiatives.

I explain to my clients that a "virus" is rarely a good thing. I don't want a single viral video, I want many videos that create a "network" of trusted, high value content. I would rather have 50-100 videos for a client with 10K views than 1 with 1 million.

it is also one of the techniques to make controversial videos or really bad quality of which people will talk and make parodies of
Only then that matters is number of views
So yes if it has a lot views also it has lot of dislikes it does not matters it is still successful
