Traffic just went nuts!

As of last night my traffic exploded. I was concerned at first but checked it out further. It seems I'm getting a huge surge from StumbleUpon.

I don't have a badge on that page so I'm assuming someone liked what they read and copied it to Stumbleupon.

Has anyone else experiences this? I mean the traffic is just mental. The only thing is, I've read time and time again that SU traffic is just junk traffic. I don't understand it completely but it seems people thumbs up or down the content then Move onto the next article. They might just visit your site for a few seconds.

So what good is SU traffic?

  • It's junk traffic that will not covert into sales and it will ruin your EPC and conversion ratios. If any specific affiliate is driving that kind of traffic, chances are that you want to ban him.

I'm in full agreement with AA.

SU traffic is untargeted junk. It gets me a bounce rate nearly double of what my blog usually receives, zero optins, low pages per visit, and a ten second visit duration.

Find out how you're getting the traffic and stop it. It messes up your Google Analytics stats like crazy.

I've had some great surges that lasted as long as 3 days from SU. No conversions though ... just traffic.

The traffic is junk if you don't know what to do with it. If that is your main traffic source experiment with different ways to trap them until you figure it out.

Its the same with reddit. People are there to be entertained, and will not (or very rarely) buy anything you have for sale, and you may get a 0.1% opt in rate for subscribers.

i got lots of traffic from reddit once (2k plus in one day) and not a single adsense click or amazon purchase.

traffic is never a bad thing, junk traffic also has buyers, as well possible leads... Yes l do agree with what all have said... but how can we judge a click... if we had that ability we would all be doing very well....just my thoughts....

its the age old thing of quality.

If you send a big group of people who want to buy fishing stuff, to a cat lovers page, you are waisting you time.

However, if you send a list of cat type people to a cat lovers page you are in like flynn.

Again you are in category 1# its just very very untargteed traffic, and you will no doublt get no signups or sales from this.

Higher quality traffic rules! ... ALWAYS!

I would rather have 5 people sent to me site, who were already interested in my stuff, then 1000 people sent to my site who were just looking and not really even interested.

And the chances are those 5 people would probably sign up and end up buying something. Does this make sense?

      I agree.

      Targeted traffic is always best.

I was considering adding a Stumble Upon for my IM efforts,

but now I see that its a waste of time and wouldn't be

      missing out on much.

I do get traffic from SU time by time.
It is not always too targeted but because it is free, then there is no harm to receive them.

That happened to me too. I went from getting 40-50+ visis/day to all of a sudden 5,000+ visits per day. However it was all junk traffic. From that 5,000+, I didn't get a single lead at all. You get a lot of visits but it's mostly junk.

I also get big surges of traffic from SU time to time, but that just seems to last for a day or 2
Like you know it just junk traffic, they seem to check out your page and then thumb up or down
But when you get this kind of traffic they are also likely to share your page on other social platforms which turns out good to you
