Improve Your Video Marketing: Embedding Commands

For those of you that use YouTube and other forms of video marketing, it is important that you get your message across.

There is a lot of training on copywriting and how to write compelling copy, however the same cannot be said for video marketing.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a large topic, and there are many different avenues and facets to study. (for more information do a quick Google Search)

The one are that I would like to focus on here, and which I believe can help when recording videos is EMBEDDED COMMANDS

What are embedded commands? How do they work? How do you use them?

You may be familiar of concepts, of "Your own unconscious mind", and perhaps you have heard of things like "Its always listening", taking care of everything that is important for you to go about living your life happily, healthily and so forth.

From breathing to digestion, from dreaming to sleeping, your unconscious mind takes care of millions of processes every day, while your conscious mind is right here, reading to this post and its totally area of everything that you are doing.

When you have a conversation with yourself... that is your conscious mind at work... Kind of cool isn't it?...

But here is the thing...

There is NO such thing as an unconscious mind or a conscious mind...

WHAT?

You heard that right!! These are descriptions. We use the words of a conscious and unconscious to describe various processes at work.

So... What exactly is an embedded command then?

An embedded command is a form of covert suggestion that, as its name suggests, is embedded within a larger communication or content.

If you want to get good with embedded commands, its easy. Remember there isn't a "some place you are trying to lodge" your suggestion, rather, you are looking to present your suggestions in a covert and non-overt way, so a persons conscious mind does not screw things up. Sometimes it is better to be overt in your communication and just come right out and say it, other times it can be more useful to be subtle!!

Here is the process on how you do this

1. Figure out what you want to say or prime in another persons mind. Write it out, it could be something like "You are going to enjoy this course" or "learning can happen quickly"

2. Figure out what kind of wrapper you are going to use to deliver the embedded commands. A good technique is to start your video with an introduction where you can embed you suggestions - Getting attention from the start

3. Choose your method for marking out the commands or suggestions. There are lots of ways to do this. I choose to change my tempo and reduce my tone when I was marking out suggestions for your unconscious mind to pick up on

4. If this is your first time using embedded commands, practice delivering the suggestions within your wrapper story with friends and others.

5. Once you've got it down use it for real, in terms of the intended context that you want to get the outcome.

There are many other ways that you can mark out embedded command...

You can, for example, put a pause right before the command that you intend to deliver. As I mentioned you can change tone. You can make a non-verbal anchor like moving your hand. Now, obviously, that is quite obvious, but you can do it in a more discreet way. You can look in a person's eye, a particular eye, consistently when you deliver, a message. Like I said there are many ways.

I suggest that you focus on the one that I have given you, which is changing your tempo and slightly reducing your voice tone in a downward inflection.

One last thing, I know that you are probably going to ask this, so I will answer now...

How many times do you have to embed a suggestion, in order for it to work?

That is a fair question...

There isn't a "somewhere deep" you are looking to stick anything. What you are looking to do is impart a pattern of thought and suggestions on your listener... For some people they may pick it up in 3-4 suggestions for others, it may take 10-12 times. It will vary. One of the most famous hypnotists, Milton Erickson - he wasn't concerned with how many times he had to say it... once... twice... three times... he embed a suggestion. Rather, he would say in multiple forms and multiple ways until he got the result he wanted. So it is going to vary from person.

I hope that you can take this tip and use it in your business when carrying out video marketing
