StumbleUpon traffic spike

I'm writing this article based on what happened one week ago on Thursday January 6 due to my consistent use of StumbleUpon.

Just keep in mind that these numbers are very exciting for me because I'm used to getting an average of 20-30 visits a day, so you can imagine how big of a deal this was to me when my traffic reached the numbers I'm about to mention.

So, I've been using Stumbleupon for years but never have gotten results like this.

I was simply doing my usual bookmarking on one of my horror sites.

I added a page and then didn't post again for 3 days on my site.

When I finally checked my Google Analytics I noticed a massive spike of traffic.

Remember the average amount of unique visitors was about 20-30 per day. When I looked at Friday which was the day following my post it had jumped to 69....which was double than what I was used to...not bad.

But then I looked at Saturday and the traffic when up to 418....that was pretty impressive. Or at least to me it was.

But then I saw Sunday and the traffic when up again...this time to 492....I'm even more excited now.

Then Monday came around and imagine my surprise when I see that my little horror site got 1,058 visits that day!



So the first question I asked myself was....why did this particular bookmark get so many views?

Like I said earlier, bookmarking on StumbleUpon has been part of my marketing process for years but none of my bookmarks have ever received this much attention...so why this one?

So I thought well, the title of the post was called, Luna, which means moon in Spanish. So maybe there was something going on with the moon that night? But never saw any post on Facebook or any mention of any miraculous events happening to the moon that night.

And I do remember seeing the moon kinda reddish that same night I posted but not one post from anyone in the social media about the moon!

Was this a coincidence? Did my bookmark just get lucky?

At first I thought it did until I made my next post which has already gotten over 2,000+ views!

So what's the moral of the story?

Continue to post on StumbleUpon, you never know when one of your bookmarks will get people's attention and bring in floods of traffic to your site.
