Facebook gimmick pages to build a audience?

I notice a lot of Facebook pages with names like "real men dont cheat on and lie to women" and these pages usually have a ton of fans.

I currently run a website and I was thinking that maybe I should create a Gimmick page to build a niche audience and use that to promote my site and link back to my primary website page in a sort of two tiered marketing strategy.

Good idea or bad? Has anyone here ever used this approach?

Well, if you create a page "real man dont cheat and lie to women" - then you won't get any targeted traffic on it. You will get plenty of random clicks from 14-24 year old girls.

If this is your target audience, it could work great for you.

The gimmick pages work well for general untargeted fans because they are responding to funny/controversial/attention grabbing pics/vids.

However they dont normally convert well into offers because they are not targeted to a general niche. I might like the same funny pic as my wife but we have totally different tastes and would not normally click on same offer.

By all means in terms of building your fanpage then jump in but for linking back to your main site I wouldnt expect too many conversions. Obviously it depends what your site is about etc.

However the strategy is sound, except for the bit where you arent targeting your audience to your offers, your targeting your offer to as many eyes as possible and hoping some complete. Thats not a good long term strategy.
