Facebook: More "Talking abouts" than "Likes"

I was looking today at few FB fan pages and found a small number of nice pages that have more "Talking about" than "Likes". Normally a good quality page with, say, 10,000 likes would have around 10% of "talking about", or 1,000.

But a small number of pages, with say 50,000 likes, have 200,000 "talking about". These pages are typically posting every few hours.

Does anybody have an idea how that can be achieved?

People commenting on the post without liking the post.

Also just a FYI 10% talking about consistently is not normal.. its actually pretty good. I would say 5-8% is normal. Of course it does depend on the context of the fan page though.

So there is some sort of hieararchy: comments are highest, than shares, than likes?

Well its not really a 'hierarchy' just what constitutes a 'talking about'. Likes, shares, comments all count as talking about. Any of these things will increase the stat. Also keep in mind that the stat kind of lags a little.. so people doing one of these things a day or two ago will effect your talking about count today.

So to explain how what you described in your OP could happen.

lets say I have a "Cute Cats" fan page with 1 fan. I post a picture of a cute cat. My 1 fan likes the post and shares it on his timeline. From his timeline 5 of his friends share it. I now have a 5 talking about with only a 1 fan so my talking about is 5 but my like count is 1. This is of course a very simplified example.

On thing to note from pages like this, it means that they are posting quality posts that people are sharing, but are not getting the people back to there actual fan page (where they would like it)

Mostly one of their posts went viral and is causing the talking about to be much greater than the page likes. I would guess that or they shares a post on a smaller page onto one of their other pages with a much larger audience.

I comment on things all the time that I don't press the like button on, just the way it goes. The reason why Pages with lower likes don't get as many talking abouts is it's harder for them to go viral when not as many people are sharing your stuff. This will also vary based on brand and niche, and depends on how engaged the audience is.
