Can you target FB ads to last names?

Is it possible to target a facebook ad to people of a certain last name? I don't see that option anywhere.

how are you searching on the social graph? I can only find a way to search for the name included. Like, if their last name is John, I end up finding people with both the first and last name John.

Regardless, you can't target ads to people with specific names anymore, so it doesn't matter if you can find them or not anymore.

Yes, you can target your ads to the people's last name.. I am using that method too since last year, I have software to scrap data on fb to customize user last name & my target are best... I used niche for building muscle.. Btw, I used thousands of facebook accounts to advertise my niche for free.. Everything was good.. you can try it bro..

Yes, it doesn't matter if you can scrape the list, you can't use the list.

Not true, there is a T shirt company that somehow makes custom shirts based on users last names and markets only to people with that last name via facebook timeline ads, and they're still doing it. I just saw another ad yesterday.

This is true. I know a few people using TeeSpring to make these T-shirts and using a scraper to create a list of people's last names from the social graph.

Of course u can do it. Just scrape the names u want after running the relevant term in Graphsearch and use an ID extracting tool to collect IDs. Create custom audience, upload in your power editor and you're ready to go.

P.S. About the last FB update about name based audiences. Facebook did kill all audiences that were name based, but not the ones over 30k IDs. There are warriors right now making crazy sales with big lists and no competition (it's like FB worked for them)...

    Really interesting.

So can I get some one on Fiverr to scrape me an audience of 30,000 fans from a similar page to the niche I'm in. And then, target them by first names? So like a separate ad for Kevin, Keith, Kyle etc etc. Is this within the Facebook TOS?

    Thanks

It is possible, but it is against Facebook rules.

You get a two day window uploading a custom audience by name before they kill the audience. If you want to deal with that, reupload the CA every two days until their filters catch it. This won't last and you will be violating FB T&C's, risking locking yourself out of your account for a day, possibly longer. Maybe using a second account to run ads would avoid this.

      Thanks Scot,

Sounds like a lot of work uploading maybe 150 unique name related ads from Abe to Zack every 2 days !!

that's why it's not a sustainable business model!

But with campaigns making a few hundred, financially it works out. hiring someone to do the grunt work at a few bucks an hour is also a viable solution.

So if I scrape a list of 30,000 + names facebook won't block it?

    With scrapper it is possible,
but it's very risky because if Facebook sees it they don't waste time blocking it.
you should read the Facebook custom audience TOS

I use FB graph scraper and only seem to get around 8,000 UIDs everytime I run it. Does anyone have a similar issue or does anyone recommend a different program for the last name scraping?

Yes, I wouldn't do it either as FB doesn't like it as everyone else has stated.

With that said, there are some people still doing it... it's a risk that you need to weigh for yourself.

For me, I'd rather keep my account in good standing as much as possible and follow their TOS. FB is just a great traffic source to risk it... if you were a part of the good ole' days with Google, you'd understand what I'm talking about... do things the right way and your chances of having a long-term sustainable business increases.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Enter "People named "white"" in Facebook opengraph search to pull the list of people with lastname "white".
    2. Then scrape their User ID's or Facebook emails.
    3. Upload the User ID's or Facebook emails as your custom audience using Facebook Power Editor.
    4. Wait for your custom audience to be approved. Note that only percentage of it will be approved.

    Hope this helps!

This is a great share OP, and i'm doing a lot of experimentation on various ways how to scrape much better results according to what specific keyword or phrases to target my audiences in my general niche offers. Any good reviews of other tools like social lead freak?
