Facebook Like Farms: Why does it exist in the first place?

Hi! I got to watch the viral Facebook Fraud video by Veritasium and have seen some threads here in WF talking about it such as in...

Facebook, is this true?
Facebook Click Fraud

Although it has been weeks since this video went live, it did leave me thinking as to why Facebook click farms exists particularly in developing countries in the first place?

The general idea I got after reading the other threads is that businesses do it to increase credibility on their Facebook Pages. The more likes your Facebook page appears to have (real or not) can influence potential customers to eventually buy a product or service from you. But this is often not the case.

So my question remains, why do Facebook Like Farms exist in the first place even if we all know that its bad for business and it will just do more harm than good?

Do like farms only exist so that it can supply the demand for the first world countries? Do you think that this kind of service would die anytime soon?

I come from the Philippines myself, have been offered facebook liking jobs like these by online clients (and have declined coz i know better), I also have my own Facebook Page that I promoted through Facebook Ads that gave me 750+ likes sadly with zero engagement.

I'd appreciate any comments on this, good or bad
