Be Active in all Social Networking Accounts.
Update them on regular basis.
Try to target only niche related users.

  Amazingly, LinkedIn is by far my greatest source of traffic. Likely why more
  and more of my time goes into it. I have close to 2000 connections and 5-6
  groups I focus on. I get some great leads! I put many of my 'secrets' in my blog.
  
  LinkedIn BURIES all other sources, for me.

  There is no question that this is the basic outline for social success. I would add
  to make sure the posts are informative or entertaining. Remember, we strive
  for 'likes' and 'shares'. Go viral baby!

  content, 5% selling"

  If we can presume your target market is on each of these sites, the information others have shared regarding quality content and interaction apply.
  
  I would add to that to be very aware of the vastly different ways each of the Sites works.
  
  Facebook allows people to check in at anytime and review the content that's been added. Twitter is real-time, so if you post at 10 AM, by 10:15, what you've posted is probably buried by other tweets. LinkedIn, like Facebook, allows users to browse what's been posted while they were away.
  
  Facebook Groups are a great way to connect with like-minded people, and as long as you are active and participating, you'll build your network. Twitter's hashtags are very powerful, and mini-communities are built around them. LinkedIn is a completely different beast. Serious networking and regular contribution is absolutely necessary, and Groups are very powerful there, too.
  
  Tailor your activity and content based on your market and the platform you're using, and you should see gradual success - Just keep in mind that real, long-term engagement won't happen overnight.

I think you get just as much benefit from social signals helping boost your rankings plus you get the popularity factor and traffic comes from both search engine and views and clicks on actual social media channels

Posting on pages, gorups and connecting with people can increase traffic for your site, if you can regularly bring and increase traffic through social media it can also help in ranking.
