Two Failed TeeSpring Campaigns - Im Sharing

Okay, I noticed that beard related and duck dynasty releated tee shirts had some awesome sales on teespring. I made this, targeting red sox fans: Duck Dynasty, Schmuck Dynasty... | Teespring

0 sales in $20 worth of FB ads

I also made this...

PUCK DYNASTY! Chicago Hockey Tee Shirt | Teespring

Targeting Chicago Blackhawk fans, 1 sold out of 50 after $20 worth of ads.

I thought these were great ideas? I targeted Massachusetts & Red Sox Fans and Chicago & Blackhawk Fans.

A very similar duck dynasty sox shirt (I added the "schmuck" and my own graphic) sold 1500+ shirts -- and I got 0? Somethings not right...

To be frank with you, the shirts sorta suck bro. Can't help you with false positivity on this one. lol

Question though, the shirt that sold 1500 was that during the new trending about dude getting booted off the show? Seems to me that the duck dynasty lime light for drama has left the building recently.

That's okay, I appreciate the honesty. Im happy to shut down campaigns and keep trying. The reasoning behind the duck dynasty was because the Red Sox and Blackhawks had players with beards. You'd see signs at games that said "Fear the Beard" - so its not a random connection.

Can you give me an example of a teespring campaign that doesn't suck?

Your reasoning is not obvious, and it won't be to anyone who sees that shirt. And I am understating this point.

Yeah I'm in a suburb of Denver! Small world! I didn't even realize that was a beard when I first saw the shirts so what does that tell you? lol

Agree with Rus Sells. I didn't recognize it as a beard ... in fact actually thought "what is that?" when I saw your campaign. Never mind. Teespring is a numbers game, just try again.

Not sure if you're doing CPC or CPM on your campaigns, but in the bit of Teespring I've done my CTR is usually over 6%, sometimes much higher. So you may want to look at your ads as well.

P.S. and off topic: Rus Sells you have the BEST. SIGNATURE. EVER.

Yeah I think the design needs to be a little clearer glad you agree with me.

Thanks for the kudo's on my siggy. Kinda crazy and thank for letting me know my opt in form was fubar'd, it's fixed now.

I would say that it has something to do with your shirt designs. You would need to make exceptional shirts to be successful in Teespring. If you're not very creative, just hire somebody from fiverr.com to do it for you. Provide the the text and idea and let them to the trick!

I actually DID hire the #1 ranked tee shirt guy on fiverr to make BOTH of those shirts! KoolNerd is his user name. He's a great, reliable fiverr, apparently my ideas just blew monkey dung!

    heres mine 2c.

provide more info about your ads, the cost alone is not enough. how many clicks, how high is your ctr, target audience..the reason I say this is because you spent 20$ and got only 5 fb likes? seems super low to me. either your cpc was really high or its really designs fault.

while I dont think your design is bad, its just not great. too much text and while I get your connection do others as well? I would go straight to the point and had just text saying "puck (sox) dynasty". IN CAPS LOCK. thats the other problem I see with the design, the choice of font and not having it all in caps lock. it sorta lacks focus and makes it harder to look at. I would also try and find the font which best resembles the original (google red sox font for example). the same goes for colors, choose only the colors which represents particular team, together with font it gives the fans more reason to associate themselves with your design.

anyway, thats just my way of doing things .

My CTR was .864 on the Red Sox one and .307 on the Hockey one. My target audience was ages 17-45, male, red sox fans or Chicago Blackhawk fans. Looking at it now, and with the feedback from this thread I can see those weren't good ideas. Too much work for the viewer to associate all those things, duck dynasty, red sox, beards, baseball -- im pretty sure it was my crappy idea! Ideas always seem better in my head with no ones feedback -- haha

Oh well, Im not giving up, more shirts to come!

I don't think it's a bad idea, I am not a fan but I got the reference quickly. I find that sometimes the more "inside" the reference is, the higher the sale because you have those fanatics that will hop all over these inside joke/references.

However, your problem I see from the stats are the extremely low CTR. Anything below 1% in my opinion is an ineffective ad. Why? Think about how much exposure it will take to get 1 sale... you need 100 views for ONE click.. on average you need 100 clicks before you know. which means you are looking at 10,000 reach with 1% CTR... definitely not worth it for a T-shirt. Maybe still do-able with a CPA offer.

From my experience, I always recommend people aim for a higher CTR first with their campaigns. Why? Because higher CTR will quickly give you website clicks, then you know for a fact if it's a design problem or not.. 100 clicks no sale, then its probably a design problem.

Baseball and other sports like Basketball is a good place to test, because there are TONS of passionate fans, making getting CTR a lot easier. From there you can slowly switch to some super niche and try to maintain the same CTR.

What I'd do in your situation is once you find a timely design (meaning something is happening in 2-3 weeks that these fans are hyping over), split test it with 2 to 5 ads with different combination of image + hook line to the SAME audience group... after 1 day, see if you found a winner or 2, cut the rest and scale up from there.

Lastly, are you using Facebook's interest setting to find these fans? I would highly recommend investing in scraping software to find those hardcore fans... that will boost your CTR by 3 to 7% for sure.

If you have more questions, post here (I'm new to this forum so I don't know if I can get notification if you reply here or not) or at my thread named "made over $1,000 per week" or PM me.

Glad to see new people here that are persistent, Teespring has money in it, but it requires work and dedication. You can do it!

Shirts can be simple... but when going after something like Duck Dynasty, I think a more elaborate design will do best instead of just words on a shirt... some of my campaigns that have done great are just words on a shirt.

The first thing I look at is my Clicks, CPC, Spent So Far, then Targeting when looking at my campaigns that haven't done so well.

Also, are you using custom audiences? If not, try that as well.

I don't know how to use "custom audiences" - I just selected Boston Red soxs fans and that narrowed it down. I wouldn't know how to use scraping software - Im not that tech savvy, escpecially how to use it and make it work inside facebooks ad campaign platform!

One of the ways to narrow down on facebook is by "active shoppers" - people who have bought a product by going thru a facebook link. I cant imagine how many first time buyer would buy a tee shirt, should I narrow down to "active shoppers" on my next campaign?

    Thanks for your replies!

      Hey Airwolfe,

Using custom audiences is certainly the BEST way to get your campaign in front of the perfect people.

Firstly you need to use the Chrome browser when configuring and working inside custom audiences.

Then you need to pick up Joe Troyers add on/extension for Chrome. What this FREE tool does is grabs the FB user ID's for pages, profiles and or groups and it works on FaceBooks "Graph Search" too! It's pretty slick. Also make sure to pay attention to his first emails as he gives examples of "how" to search on Facebook.
